What to ask college freshwoman?

Thursday, granddaughter's first time home from first semester.

I am looking for a conversation starter that is beyond the usual, "So, how is school?"

Does she actively participate or does she just take notes?

If she does participate, if she's in a co-ed school, do her male classmates dominate the class or does she hold her own?

Does she challenge her professors with hypotheticals and/or inconsistencies?

Which class(es) does she really enjoy and which ones were a mistake in enrolling?

Has she been drawn to one particular major, perhaps a minor as well?

Does her college offer Junior Year Abroad?

Does her school focus more on Liberal Arts or STEM?

High school, straight A. .... interested in engineering.

This is where it became interesting. She and her mom toured Carnegie, M.I.T., Rensselaer and others. All offered at least 1/2 scholarships. The school she chose is more liberal arts.

Go figure.

Thanks for the questions.
