Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWhen I was a little boy, my father and I would grab our shovels when it snowed...
and walk down to the business district first thing in the morning and shovel their sidewalks, and we would come home with a bunch of money. He did this alone usually, unless I had a snow day from school.
On our way home, we would stop at a restaurant that was a few doors away from my home, and have breakfast.
He was good friends with the owner, and he would have the owner make me a vanilla milkshake with two raw eggs in in. I didn't like the thought of that, but you couldn't really taste the eggs. My dad thought it was healthy. must have been an old school thing. It was made with one of those green old timey milk shake machines.
So I had a raw egg vanilla shake with my fried eggs and toast.
He used to talk to me in Italian, which I didn't really understand too well. Just a few words. He would tell me to dip my toast in the runny egg yolks by saying an Italian word. It might have been "scarpetta".
He'd point at the dish and say that word...
Scarpetta, scarpetta.
I just looked up that word, and it means "little shoe"...the shape that the bread makes when sopping up the sauce with it.
Edit: spelling.
