We did for a few months (daughter ordered them, I called her with my list every week). But I didn't like it and the extra tip was an extra I felt we could save if I just did it myself. I would ALWAYS tip the delivery person, tho. Also, I liked visiting food and picking out what I wanted.
I just returned exhausted from a shopping trip. I thought it would all be okay if I made several small shoppings a week but this hasn't worked out so well.
I might go back to having my daughter order once a week and I would go for any extras during the week.
If you order groceries are you happy with not going to the grocery store?

(65,290 posts)sections on a master list we develop each week after consulting the sale specials flyer we get delivered with our newspaper every Thursday. It's hard on my back, where I have arthritis in my lower spine. I recover and hubby puts the groceries away for me. Then I'm fine.

(24,337 posts)I need two new knees, and shopping is a pain! Even with the motor carts,(if they have one charged up in good working condition) they just don't hold enough. We go through a huge bag of dog and cat food each week. I sometimes do pick up, which doesn't have a tip involved. But, delivery is so convenient and lets me be free to work on other stuff and spend my time more efficiently. Plus, I don't impulse buy and can keep a rolling tab on my money.

(5,688 posts)Use delivery for regular staple items. The other day I needed something and went into store. Had to walk at least a block and back to get my item, and then wait in line for 15 minutes or so to check out. Brought home how much a convenience delivery is. Old bones and aches and pains made it clear. Not that fussy anymore.
I would never let someone pick fresh produce or meat products (including fish) for me.

(2,995 posts)It's easy. Convenient. And I don't impulse shop.
Started during covid.
Only issue is they don't always pick great produce.
Other than that, it works great.
Grocery store is 1 mile from house and can schedule times around coming home from work or other errands.

(65,290 posts)And I don't mind making several trips as long as the weather is decent. Unloading groceries in the pouring rain is awful.

(2,979 posts)I've had items delivered when my shoulder was messed up - I just couldn't carry a 40# bag of dog food.
And now I'm dealing with a pinched nerve and I can only walk a few steps before the pain sets in so I'm having groceries delivered. I'm scheduled for the nerve block on 12/2 and I can't wait. This sucks.

(4,664 posts)I do have to carry it from the car to the house. Frozen and cold foods go in first but sometimes I leave other products to be be brought in later if Im struggling. I had a knee surgery that didnt go the way it should have, which led to back issues, so walking through the store is difficult. I love it. I order online, often with extra online sale prices, and the attendant puts everything in the car. No extra charges and I actually save money.

(4,664 posts)Is there a chance you could speak to a manager and set up something? Youd be surprised at how cooperative they can be if they know theres a need. Also, maybe theres another store near you that offers pick up. If you want to choose your own produce you could do an order of basics and just go in the store for those few items. I hope something works for you. Its miserable to walk all those steps and load groceries.

(19,320 posts)They take good rests between getting the rest throughout the day. If they still arent done by 5:30 and I get home, I bring in the rest. I hope others do this across the world. It just makes so much sense.

(4,630 posts)I shop in my neighborhood, in a small Hispanic market. Their produce turns over several times a day not once a week. Its cut or weighed to order at the meat case, nothing touches Styrofoam or plastic. Dairy is higher but lucky us, there is a real dairy a mile away. Cleaning supplies are bought at the hardware store and animal food at the feed store. I pass all of those on the way to the market.

(10,290 posts)You never knew what youd get. About six weeks in, the store announced what we dubbed geezer hour. The reserved an hour early in the morning solely for people over 65. My wife started going then (masked), and still does. There arent many people in the store, she can make her own decisions, and all the staff know her now.

(5,192 posts)and we quickly learned to check the No Substitutions button when doing curbside orders. We got some weird stuff in the bags before doing that. You really never did know what youd get, lol.

(26,503 posts)I make quick trips between times to pick up items we didn't plan to use or that are a good price at other stores.
I have a very bad back and can only do about one aisle before the pain becomes too intense. I prefer to select my produce and meat, but I have had good experiences with the shoppers' selection.

(17 posts)I have a leg injury that, due to complications, is taking a long time to rehab from. I can walk very short distances, but stores are out.
I've been pleased with the service. So pleased, I plan to continue using it when I'm back to fighting trim.
I also order all cat supplies from Chewy.com, and they're delivered to my porch.

(7,780 posts)I do my own picking on my phone app. They do a great job and I don't have to go to a grocery store. I hate shopping. Yes you do tip.
I do go to a local farm market once or twice a month just to see if there is anything different. If you have good delivery in your area go for it.
I would start with canned stuff and other hard goods, household items.

(4,672 posts)and non perishables - I order them from Target. An account with them gives 5% discount and free shipping on $35 or more. Some items are free shipping charge even under $35. I love Target!!

(16,120 posts)But I didnt like folks picking out my produce or meat.
I usually go to the store at 6 am on Saturdays. No one is really around at that hour, so I can casually stroll thru or zoom along if needed.

(5,192 posts)and can say the employees who do the shopping take their jobs very seriously and are picky about the items they choose. It's a highly coveted job among the rest of us and hard to get moved up to.
I'm sure that may vary by individual store location.

(2,335 posts)I like choosing items from the inventory online, with nutrition and reviews, prices and coupons for each item, the weekly ads and search. I get coupons, discounts, etc., pick substitutions if items aren't available.
And I don't have to huff and puff around the aisles. I pick a time, show up then and they put it in my trunk. Cheaper than delivery, usually.

(4,672 posts)Saves me time and is so convenient. I started during COVID and it has been a pleasure. I do miss having a snack at the cafeteria sometimes but now even those items are on the list at Wegmans

(9,251 posts)I did when I was in Dallas (working with/for a friend for about 1 1/2 years - 12/22 - 6/24 -approximately).
We worked from her home since that's where her small business is. We ordered a few times and they messed it up pretty bad as a rule. I remember one time the smell of weed on the delivery person almost gave us a contact high.
Here at home in L.A. I never order. I have my routine. I normally go to two or three stores after work on Friday afternoon. I want to get my errands over with so they won't be hanging over me during the weekend.

(5,843 posts)an injury on one of my feet. It's hard and painful to get out and around for any length of time, and with winter weather on the way, I don' t want to chance a fall.
Will see if my health prevails before the winter sets in, but I'm not averse to ordering in groceries if needed.

(16,082 posts)In my case, it started to become necessary before the pandemic. My ability to do the shopping was becoming more difficult, what with my advancing health issues; between the oxygen and the walker, getting the groceries into the house brought new challenges. When the pandemic expanded the delivery options, Walmart was the only store in my area to offer delivery to SNAP households. Much as I don't care for their business model, I have appreciated the delivery option. I miss selecting my own produce, but I can cruise the fruits and veggies at the Safeway where I get my prescriptions. In the main, however, I don't see myself straying from the deliveries from Walmart -- unless some other store provides a reasonable alternative.

(18,275 posts)At first I used to order them and pick them up, but I got sick of waiting around a parking lot for them to bring my groceries out. I changed to delivery, and I try to keep it to 3 deliveries per month. I give a 5% tip. It does make my life easier.
Edit: I'm physically capable of doing it, but honestly its easier to find things online than in the store and I'm much less likely to impulse buy. Plus the ice cream doesn't melt.
I use Instacart as we have no car and it is not walkable here. I would like to find a different way and not have these extra delivery costs.

(55,877 posts)unless it is ups or fedex. if I could do grocery delivery I would do it for sure, as is most of my shopping is online or with app for curbside pick up. I freaking LOVE it and once I worked out the kinks of knowing how to set the right substitutions or not, and write clear notes for the shoppers I have been so happy. they do really well on produce and meat for me, just rarely for some expensive cut of meat I will go in to make sure. otherwise it is so convenient. plus I can have son or husband pick up with out the types of mistakes and extras they always tried to get away with.
