"Bring out the comfy chair!"

Please, please, tell me that somebody else gets this reference!

Earlier today, I was in the lobby of my senior living apartment building. A resident came into the lobby ahead of a delivery man pushing a large cardboard box on a cart. The woman working the reception desk saw the box and said, "Voting machine? Take that right into the community room." (Building's community room is a polling place.)

The woman escorting the delivery responded, "No, he's bringing up a chair for me; it's a lumbar chair." Where upon I proclaimed, "Bring out the comfy chair!" and was largely ignored. I turned to the person standing closest to me and said, "You know, from Monty Python?" and was met with a blank stare.

I felt so alone right then. It was a real life Monty Python moment and she specifically said it was a lumbar chair, not some spindly dining chair. How could I have passed that up!?

Ah well, what can I say? There are some days when I think that I must be speaking ancient Sumerian or maybe Sanskrit.

Self-pity rant over.

Scene: Two people are having a fairly** normal conversation. One person starts asking the other a lot of questions, to which the other replies, "I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition!" (This line was referenced by Ocelot II in reply #1)

Through the door burst three men in red Catholic Cardinals outfits, "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!" proclaims Michael Palin.

The three Inquisitors then go about applying absurd tortures, including what I think is a dish rack tied about the woman's chest. When that doesn't break her will, one of the Inquisitors calls, "Bring out the comfy chair!" because obviously the dish rack torture wasn't cruel enough. The woman is then settled into the comfy chair and the silliness continues.

* There has to be a Monty Pythonesque way to say that.
** It's Monty Python, so "normal" is a loose descriptor.

It is "Fetch the comfy chair!", not "Bring out the comfy chair!" Thank goodness Fox News didn't jump on me for that egregious misrepresentation. And I forgot about the heinous use of soft cushions. (No doubt, my mind just blocked out the trauma.)
