⁨No, Democrats Don't Need a Straight White Guy to Win in 2028

So Axios had a story this weekend about how a bunch of DC-based Democratic strategists think Democrats have to run “a straight, white, Christian man” in 2028 to win the presidency. And this is exactly the kind of lazy analysis you get from a lot of the DC consulting class that drives me absolutely up a wall.

I want to take a moment to explain my position, because I think very differently than a lot of other strategists in the party.

Up front: sexism, racism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia—these things are real. It is harder for a person of color or a woman to get elected president of the United States. Just look at the track record. That part is obvious.

But my rebuttal isn’t that those things don’t exist. It’s that there’s something deeper going on. And if we don’t understand that, we’re going to keep misdiagnosing why we lose.

numerous Vietnam Veterans and all were unfairly degraded and defeated? The same will happen no matter, straight or not. I want a tall person. A Real Christian democrat running won't hurt in my opinion. Fake evangelicals are the haters.

The DNC didn’t spend $20 million to learn “how to listen to men”, to then nominate a woman or POC in 2028.

I don’t like it, but unless there are major changes in the party’s power structure, and who those in power listen to over the next year, that appears to be the path forward- the nominee will be a straight white male not named Shapiro or Newsom.

This all the freaking way! We are looking for people who will fight for us in all three branches of government. The Dems have produced very few fighters, and even fewer fighters who realize the enemy is the obscene wealth and corporate consolidation.

At a time when most Americans don’t believe politicians are looking out for them, people are searching for someone who seems like they’ll actually fight on their behalf.

Whether you like Trump or not, that’s what he represents to a lot of voters. Yes, he’s betrayed that trust—and that’s why his approval is sinking like a rock—but the appeal was never about identity alone. It was about perceived authenticity.

4. A lot of Chump's appeal to the MAGAs has been his fake bluster and manufactured outrage

Chump the "reality-TV" guy is pretty good about putting on a show for the folks. But that has always been a thin veneer, mostly talk and very little to back it up.

I believe the Democratic Party can do better than this. Sen. Mark Kelly, Gov. JB Pritzker, Gov. Gavin Newsom, and several others will get chances in the next 2 years and they will put Chump to shame. We have real leaders who can see the problems and they have real answers for Americans. If people just put down their phones for 10 G-D minutes and listen to a real leader, it will make all the difference in 2028.

It’s not just bluster if you actually accomplish your agenda.

You must realize that?! It was all planned and carried out by others, and Project 2025 was just the tip of the iceberg. The ultra-conservatives have been giving him orders all along, and making him feel like he's the "smart guy that makes the decisions." They play to his narcissism and his other personality deficits and he does as he's told. Then he plays golf while they do all the work.

It’s being done as his agenda so it’s his agenda. Notice who our former allies are responding to. It’s the top dog who’s responsible and the buck stops with the president. He broke it.

6. the idea that tRUMP is "authentic" was always ridiculous...but he did speak in an off the cuff & attention grabbing

manner that served our news cycle well.

Dems just need someone who clearly articulates the issues and can talk frankly and off the cuff easily and doesn't seem overly scripted.

It’s not just message, it’s a clear agenda and bold action to accomplish it. As I’ve said before, talking about affordablility amounts to pleading with the billionaires and corporations to tone it down a bit on the greed, so I’m still waiting for a clear agenda that is way more that.

Donald has only WON elections running against women. Is that a nationwide admission of misogyny - you bet your a** it is, but that's the way the world (still) is.
