The deeply personal reasons why many Indiana Senate Republicans said no to Trump

(CNN) Jean Leising spoke at a breakfast this fall at her 8th grade grandson’s school. Hours later, when she was set to give him a ride home from basketball practice, he bashfully told her that his entire team had received text messages about her that day — “and they were all bad.”

Recounting the moment to CNN shortly after she joined 20 other Republican state senators in rejecting President Donald Trump’s redistricting push, Leising said she laughed the moment off with her grandson — but that it ultimately led to her opposing the president.

“Boy, when I got home that night, that’s when I decided,” said Leising, a 76-year-old grandmother of eight, first elected to the Senate in 1988. “I was angry. So the next day, I said, ‘I’ve got to talk about this.’ Because this is over the top. This shouldn’t be the way it was.”

Must not have seen many old classic monster movies. Eventually the monster turns on its creator.

The decision made by any state legislature should have been easy. It’s dealing with a selfish petulant child. His concern is not for any state, just packing legislatures with lemmings. We’ve forgotten he’s a convicted felon, an adjudicated rapist and he’s waiting on Epstein to become public. He’s low life scum supported by low life scum.

But when their own number came up, then they finally grew a spine. Don’t paint them as noble patriots at this late date.

BUT it was the right thing to do. There is nothing noble about republicans. Nor patriotic. They are scum from top to bottom.

Redistricting could threaten any one of their cushy government jobs, if they sliced and diced just a little too much and misfigured the mood of the electorate.

And that ends up making other districts a bit more blue.
The irony is that the states where Gerrymandering is being done are pretty well Gerrymandered in the first place, so redistricting may bite them on their own ample posterior.

I saw Indianapolis had four sections included into four different rural districts in order to dilute the minority votes.

Republicans are not known for being welcoming to minority voters.
