No. I Am Not Apologizing

By Ben Meiselas

We stand behind our reporting on the hate rally that took place yesterday in Arizona. That’s what it was. It was a hate rally masquerading as a memorial for Charlie Kirk. Every speaker other than Erika was an abomination. Donald Trump used his speech to say he “hates” people who don’t agree with him, to complain about late-night hosts, to say that Charlie wants him to invade Chicago and Memphis with the United States military, and to lie that tariffs are “making us hot.” When someone says “I hate you” at a rally, I am going to call said rally a “hate rally” and not apologize.

We saw corporate news treat this event like it was the funeral of a pope, a queen, or a U.S. president. There was no mention of the horrific anti-gay, anti-trans, anti-Black, anti-migrant, anti-women, anti-democracy rhetoric that Charlie used when he was alive. That’s just a fact. There was no mention of Charlie calling for Biden to be executed or mocking innocent people getting killed in Gaza. Corporate news treated the memorial like it was some beautiful event and did not report on what actually took place during the speeches by Trump, Don Jr., and Stephen Miller.

I’ve already been contacted by people connected with the top executives at corporate news networks. I’ve been contacted by multiple sources who know what is being discussed inside the Trump regime. They are all livid with our coverage of the Charlie Kirk hate rally. They want us to apologize and not cover the rally or the circumstances surrounding the aftermath of Kirk’s death as we did.

Too bad!

why is it so hard for a gimpy old woman like me to find a parking space within 100 yards of the door to Safeway? Seems the crowd would be thinned out a lot if Felon's number was correct.

Being an American who stands up for dignity and freedom, means that Ben Meiselas is simply telling it like it is. Other DU posts confirm it too. America, under this oppressive GOP regime, is just moments away from going full 1934 Germany. We see it daily, the manipulated legal processes, the use of intimidation, and exploitation of political crises to dismantle American democracy.

It's straight out of the history books on repeat. It's disgusting what has already be lost.

And, that all this is just 'hand wringing' and 'overreaction'.

I hope those people are around after it all goes belly up so I can at least enjoy my ten seconds of 'I told you so!' before I pass from hunger and lack of healthcare, laying in a gutter somewhere.

Bette Davis, on the passing of Joan Crawford, a fellow actress with whom she was at odds:
"You should never say anything bad about someone, you should only say good. Joan Crawford is dead. Good."

The first time I read that in some Bette Davis biography, I think I was chuckling for a solid week!

Glad I didn't watch. The write-ups of what happened were grim enough. The one solid benefit that Charlie Kirk provided us with was demonstrating just what a profoundly dangerous, teetering country we now inhabit. Everybody take a deep breath and then get busy.

I had to start dealing with Klanners and their vicious thug kids when I was a little kid. I've had a lot of practice spotting them and I've had a lot of practice fighting them.

Kirk fit in with those assholes seamlessly. He was a hater and he'd have had one of his goons kill me if he'd been aware of my existence, which he was not.

I do not mourn his passing in the least. I have no sympathy for the people who idolized him or even the people who loved him. They're on their own, sorry.

I do regreet yet another political murder in this country, there have been far too many of those, most against Democrats and people working for peaceful change. Enough.

But I don't pretend to mourn Kirk or regret his passing. Nobody can make me do that.

They should be apologizing to you and the American people.

Collectively, they are responsible for the war we are in to save this democracy.
