Britain drops its challenge to ICC arrest warrants for Israeli leaders
Drip, drip. Applause, applause.Labour government says it will not pursue questions on courts jurisdiction over Netanyahu and Gallant

The UK has dropped its opposition to an international arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu, removing a key hurdle to one being issued and underlining the tougher stance being taken towards Israel by the new Labour government.
Downing Street confirmed on Friday that the government would not submit a challenge to the jurisdiction of the international criminal court, whose chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, is seeking a warrant against the Israeli prime minister.
The move, first reported by the Guardian, makes it more likely that the ICC will grant Khans request, in what would be a stunning international rebuke for Israel over the way it has conducted the war in Gaza and put Netanyahu at risk of arrest if he travels abroad.

This action now essentially means Britain won't stand in the way of the ICC.
I think that's what you're referring to.

(19,041 posts)4. Yes, no more kow-towing to rightwing netanyahu.
Metaphorical
(2,345 posts)3. This sets an interesting precedent
With Netanyahu, the US is in a bind - support a critical ally in the region while at the same time rebuking that ally's current leader, specifically in the case that can be seen as "At what point is a response to an attack too disproportional to the original attack."
I like the ICC route - it does not condemn the countries but their leaders. This is a very critical distinction, and it should be seen as worrisome to dictators in particular. My sense at this point is that it's also a solution that Harris might be heading towards.
