Perks of old age: Nobody says, 'Grandpa, would you please move this refrigerator?'

Aging has its drawbacks, if you hadn’t noticed.

But are there any benefits to getting older, other than the fact that it beats the alternative?

I asked that question of readers a few weeks ago, and apparently the answer is yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes again, according to the hundreds who chimed in.

“When I asked for pre-boarding on a flight this month,” said Betty Hechtman, “the airline person didn’t even ask why but just gave it to me.”

About 12 years ago, my father wanted a new refrigerator despite the existing one was still viable. I persuaded him to donate the "old" refrigerator to my Ethical Culture Society, which desperately needed it.

Two members, both men over 75, came to collect, move, and install the refrigerator. I'm talking about a full size refrigerator/freezer. They got it on a pick-up and got it inside the meeting house.

They weren't bulked up but healthy nonetheless.

With a sigh, they're both gone right now. But I still marvel at their strength and ability to take on the refrigerator.

Not feeling obligated to solve math problems that pop up on social media. You know, the ones that aver “only 5% of people can solve this.”

Who fucking cares?
