Fifteen people in Minnesota were charged with conspiracy to impede or injure federal officers over their response to a controversial and deadly immigration enforcement crackdown in the state earlier this year. The US attorney for Minnesota, Daniel Rosen, and the special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations announced the charges at a press conference in Minneapolis on Tuesday.
The prosecutors allege the defendants were part of two Minneapolis-based antifa groups that violently oppose immigration law enforcement.
Of those charged, 12 people were arrested on Tuesday and one was already in custody on other federal charges, according to officials, who said two remain at large.
Rosen showed social media posts and videos of a couple of the people indicted to underscore the allegations that they intended to impede law enforcement. In one video, a man declares he is antifa and discusses bringing guns to a demonstration. Rosen did not answer whether any agents or officers were injured by the defendants.

I said I want to go in front of the Thursday grand jury because I know you and I trust you, and you know me and you trust me, and I would never ask you to charge somebody if I didnt think there was probable cause, Mecklenburg told the grand jury. And you know youve asked me before, Well, what about this person? And I said, I dont charge people unless Im absolutely sure.
With that, Mecklenburg introduced the case against a group of Democratic activists, local elected officials and candidates that would come to be known as the Broadview Six.

Not long into the presentation, however, one grand juror made clear their feelings on having to hear the same case again.
I heard this case like last week and I thought it was a crock of s then and I still think it is, the grand juror said.

You cannot trust the department of justice. Also they are not supposed to show evidence ahead of the trial in order to not taint juries. Blanche has been called out for this.

(170 posts)Feds are going to raise as much dust as possible to discourage Dem turnout in the upcoming elections in this State. They're terrified of another state trifecta. Good! When we get it, The GOP will have more to cry about!

(11,729 posts)Whether or not they actually at the end of the day caused bodily harm is not the measure of whether or not they committed a serious crime, he said.
Because, when they are all hauled up on charges, they will be saying the reverse. (That somewhat famous bit from the beginningnof 'Robocop' comes to mind: "It's not like he killed someone!" referring to his client being charged with attempted murder.)
We need to remind Mr. Rosen and the rest of this very important statement over and over as they whine for 'leniency'.
