Cargill and the Teamsters union failed Wednesday to reach an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement covering 1,700 workers at the companys beef plant in Fort Morgan, Colo.
The latest meeting came a week after Cargill imposed a lockout of the facility, and after months of negotiations that have yielded no breakthrough.
The primary sticking point is the extent to which pay would increase, with the union so far balking at the companys offer of year-one wage increases ranging from $24.20 to $32.10 per hour.
We met with the union and reviewed its counterproposal, a Cargill spokesperson told Meatingplace in an emailed statement. While the meeting did not result in an agreement, we remain open to discussing with the union how the contract package might be structured in different ways to address employee priorities and support a stable future for the Fort Morgan facility.
