Tennessees Republican-led Legislature passed a new congressional map splitting up the states lone majority-Black district, swiftly responding to the U.S. Supreme Courts major redistricting ruling last week.
The redrawn district lines, which Gov. Bill Lee is expected to sign into law, put Republicans in position to gain a seat in this falls midterm elections and secure full control over Tennessees congressional delegation.
The new map carves up a Memphis-based seat held by longtime Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., into three districts, spreading the Democratic voters into more rural, Republican districts that stretch hundreds of miles east. It also further splits the Nashville metropolitan area into five districts.
The long districts run across cross Tennessees distinct geographic regions and tie voters from different media markets and time zones together to achieve the desired partisan impact.

(172,716 posts)Redlining is why they live where they do now and it will continue to be the way the MAGats will maintain the segregation status quo.
They won't sell to blacks claiming "the house is (suddenly) 'no longer available'" or "another buyer outbid them".
And there will be no federal agency to go to to file a complaint because they are only accepting complaints from aggrieved whites.
