Trump: U.S. Navy will escort ships out of Strait of Hormuz from Monday

Source: Axios

Updated 14 mins ago

President Trump said the U.S. Navy will start escorting ships from foreign countries through the Strait of Hormuz from Monday and warned that if Iran tries to disrupt the process the American military will use force.

Why it matters: This move that Trump called "Project Freedom" is the most significant step by his administration to try and reopen the key strait since Iran shut it down early in the war.

  • While Trump claims the move is "humanitarian," it is a clear U.S. challenge to Tehran's effort to control the strait. An Iranian military response could spark a confrontation or even an escalation back to war.

  • What he's saying: Trump wrote on Truth Social that countries from around that are not involved in the war but have ships that are stuck in the strait have asked the U.S. to help free them.

  • Many of these ships are running low on food, and other supplies for their crews and suffer from health and sanitary problems, Trump said.
  • 'The Ships movement is merely meant to free up people, companies, and Countries that have done absolutely nothing wrong — They are victims of circumstance. This is a Humanitarian gesture on behalf of the United States, Middle Eastern Countries but, in particular, the Country of Iran," Trump said.
  • "We have told these Countries that we will guide their Ships safely out of these restricted Waterways, so that they can freely and ably get on with their business," he added.

Who can believe a word this cafone has to say?

Also, let me note that Axios is the absolute worst Administration mouthpiece in US media, precisely because they pretend not to be Newsmax or Fox. An embarrassment.

‘Project Freedom,’ i.e., we will protect only those ships that can prove they paid for the oil with US Dollars so I don’t get blamed for the fall of the Petrodollar. I’m in enough shit already,

    then its game over.
plus even with the navy escoring ship i dont see much traffic going thru the straits since i dont think any vessel can get insurance at any reasonable cost. no one will risk a crossing in an uninsured ship

    15. Iranian news agency claims two missiles hit US warship intending to pass through strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Fars news agency is reporting that a US warship intending to pass through the strait of Hormuz was turned back after ignoring a warning from Iran’s navy, citing local sources.

The report, which we have not yet been able to independently verify, said that two missiles hit a US navy frigate sailing through the waterway in what Iran deemed a violation of “traffic and shipping security” near Jask island.

Iran’s military has warned the US navy to stay out of the strait after Donald Trump said the US will “help free up” ships stuck in the strategic waterway from today.

The US president called the operation a “humanitarian gesture”, with many of the vessels running low on food.
