Scoop: Commanders to brief Trump on new Iran military options Thursday

Source: msn/Axios

8h

President Trump is slated to receive a briefing on new plans for potential military action in Iran on Thursday from CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper, two sources with knowledge tell Axios.

Why it matters: The briefing signals that Trump is seriously considering resuming major combat operations either to try to break the logjam in negotiations or to deliver a final blow before ending the war.

Behind the scenes: CENTCOM has prepared a plan for a "short and powerful" wave of strikes on Iran — likely including infrastructure targets — in hopes of breaking the negotiating deadlock, three sources with knowledge said.

  • The hope would be that Iran would then return to the negotiating table showing more flexibility on the nuclear issue.
  • Another plan expected to be shared with Trump is focused on taking over part of the Strait of Hormuz to reopen it to commercial shipping. Such an operation could include ground forces, one source said.
  • Another option that has been discussed in the past and might come up in the briefing is a special forces operation to secure Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium.

  • State of play: Trump told Axios on Wednesday that he saw the naval blockade on Iran as "somewhat more effective than the bombing."

Hegseth will promise him that Iran will immediately bow down and worship Trump while giving him their uranium, their oil, and the right to choose their leaders. What a bunch of idiots spending billions more to obliterate a country that did not attack us. I'd like to see a plan for ending the war now, not continuing it. Trump and Hegseth know that they both look like fools for ignoring the consequences of starting this war so now they need to spend even more billions to avoid showing the world how incompetent they are.

under attack, Israel invading Lebanon, Iran having a nuclear program, dead school girls,
+ $5.00 a gallon gasoline, and this unneeded and un-winnable war are Trump and his band
of stupid Fascist fuck ups fault.

He thinks it can stay this way, his ballroom is more important and his photo on passports. Meanwhile WTF are the navy replenishment ships? Reports of US base damage has been suppressed but most part are unusable and the Iranians hit most of the warehouses.

While publicly demanding in April 2026 that Iran "Open the F*ckin' Strait" or face "Hell," Trump has also told aides he might not prioritize reopening it to end the war, arguing the U.S. does not rely on that oil, and that the strait would open naturally.

Trump is talking like a man with a paper asshole. The Iranians hold the better hand. Good God they have a blistering propaganda message using Lego men

From the end of his last newsletter:

I was subsequently told about a recent White House meeting on the ongoing Iranian war that abruptly ended on a bizarre note. The senior leaders of the administration’s foreign policy team—Secretary of State Rubio, Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Cain, among others—were there, along with the usual aides and notetakers, and as the meeting went on Trump clearly was losing interest. He suddenly brightened after about twenty minutes and excitedly began talking about his planned ballroom, then under construction despite a disputed court order to desist. He showed his national security leaders a slide show of the ballroom-to-be, as put together by the contractor.

At that point Iran and Israel, and life and death, no longer seemed to matter.

option for us and the world, but very unlikely, since it would be next to impossible to spin as a victory, and Trump can never accept defeat, especially in these circumstances.

2: Escalate. That's what these briefings are for. That's what Trump will eventually do, since the current situation regarding the strait of Hormuz is untenable.

However, escalation is likely to fail, and then what? Tactical nukes? Trump is more than capable of pushing the button because he is a psychopath and doesn't have long to live. Also, he wants to be an important historical figure and popping off a nuke or two will surely do that.

This Iran war just gets scarier and scarier.

is Brad Cooper a magat, or not? Has he passed the Big Lie requirement to be in this administration, or will he get fired as soon as he tells the mad king something he doesn't want to hear?

Whatever the options may be at this point, I think it's safe to assume that the worst possible one will be the order.

If they bomb infrastructure they not only commit war crimes but Iran and their proxies will do the same to all of the neighboring Gulf countries and eventually successfully get a coordinated terror and missile attack on an Israeli city or maybe multiple to enhance the damage and destruction. Israeli citizens are already leaving. Israel also has ports that may become targets for Iranian sea drones that can be deployed by their proxies in the region.

Iran has already neutralized our support systems in the region hence the bad food situation on ships. What is the medical resupply situation should the US commit to more direct action? Can our ships and personnel be resupplied with munitions, spare and repair parts, and fuel in a reasonable amount of time and without risking loss of the resupply ships or aircraft?

If Gulf allies see that we can't maintain and protect our own forces, what will they think of our ability to defend them? How will that assessment affect their future cooperation with the US?

There is more to consider than just offensive options.

They will just get more Iranians and Americans killed. They have the potential to render the Gulf states uninhabitable.

I short, they are planning to break the rest of the China. We will own the disaster. Iran will still own the Persian Gulf and the weapons grade nuclear material.

For those too young to remember, we tried all of that and more in Vietnam. The Communist Party of Vietnam still owns Vietnam. We just refuse to learn from our mistakes.
