President Trump is skipping the National Rifle Associations (NRA) annual convention this weekend, his second snub in as many years of an organization long seen as a key political ally for Republicans.
The move marks his second consecutive absence from the NRAs annual meeting held this year on April 16-19 in Houston, Texas after attending every convention since 2015.
While the prominent gun rights group has largely brushed off Trumps decision to skip the event as a scheduling issue, some critics say it underscores the NRAs waning influence in Washington after years of financial and legal turmoil. NRA Director of Public Affairs Justin Davis said in a Thursday interview that hes not at all concerned that Trumps absence reflects the groups declining influence in GOP politics.
The president is obviously incredibly busy with worldwide affairs right now, and were incredibly close to the administration. We work hand-in-glove with them on all kinds of two-way issues, Davis said, calling the president an incredible ally of the NRA. Hes incredibly helpful in everything were trying to do here, but we understand that he has very important things to do as well, he added.

Like what? Designing wasteful and unnecessary ballrooms and monumental arches with taxpayers dollars (don't believe the bullshit about it being "all donations" when there is a purported "bunker" being built underneath the ballroom)?

The NRA has become irrelevant and unnecessary as a consequence.

(5,325 posts)Hello, NRA, your entire reason for being was to protect the US from tyranny. We are awash in tyranny now.
Maybe your reason for being was what everyone said it was...selling guns for money.

Wait, the NRA moved from New York to Texas so they can award him the Texas Sharpshooter award!
