In unprecedented move, Kentucky House votes to impeach Fayette Circuit Judge Goodman

By Taylor Six and Hannah Pinski Updated March 20, 2026 5:40 PM

You have to dig through a bunch of links to find out what she was accused of, and it will surprise nobody: most of the complaints were that she ruled in favor of criminal defendants and against prosecutors.

Kentucky Republicans just impeached a local judge who has been elected six times by Fayette County (Lexington) voters. They say she has been defying precedents:

The last time a sitting judge was impeached in Kentucky was more than 100 years ago; that judge was not convicted and removed from office.

Republicans hold a 32-6 or 31-7 majority in the Senate, and an 80-20 majority in the House of Representatives. They've overriden more than a hundred of Gov. Beshear's vetoes.
