NATO chief confident spat over Strait of Hormuz can be resolved

Source: DPA International

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte signalled optimism that a spat between US President Donald Trump and European allies over the Strait of Hormuz can be resolved.

"I am confident that allies, as always, will do everything in support of our shared interests," Rutte said on Thursday. "We will find a way forward."

On Sunday, Trump had suggested in media remarks that NATO may have a "very bad" future if allies don't help ensure safe passage for commercial shipping through the strait. European allies, however, quickly ruled out participation in a potential military operation to secure fuel shipments.

The Strait of Hormuz, a major shipping route and the only path from The Gulf to the open sea, has been effectively blocked by Iran in retaliation for US and Israeli airstrikes. The blockade has triggered price surges.

It's basic diplomatic language. "It's all going to work out."

MFer isn't going anywhere for 2 years and 10 months (AFAIK). A little placating is probably smart.

Did you see the conciliatory statement coming out of Canada today? Same stuff.

of extremist behavior is what got us in the mess in the first place. Decades of people accepting the unacceptable. Politicians, the media, the military, and even the Supreme Court which accepted extreme unconstitutional actions and immunized them.

They can't afford any more problems with it, from either side of this mess.

It was inevitable they get involved, but they had to try and see if Trump would bend first.

FWIW, I don't think Trump really wants them there to share command, coordinate with, or work around, so it's probably a good thing to have a proctor now.

Isn’t a spat more of an argument?

I thought what the traitor had done was closer to starting an illegal, immoral, disastrous and completely unnecessary war of apocalyptic proportions to divert attention from his long and criminal association with the late Jeffrey Epstein.

And for people of peace, no matter what CIABCNNBCBSFAKENOISENUTWERKS calls “legalized murder by the state,” war is truly obscene.
