'We May Be Putting Boots on the Ground': Senator Alarmed by Iran Briefing With Trump Officials

Source: MEDIAite

Mar 3rd, 2026, 6:26 pm

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said he is worried that the U.S. may deploy soldiers in Iran amid its ongoing bombing campaign against the country.

The U.S. and Israel began striking targets across Iran on Saturday. Dozens of high-ranking officials were killed, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Hundreds of civilians have also died in the bombings, one of which hit a school in southern Iran, killing more than 165 people, most of them young girls. Six U.S. service members in Kuwait were killed in an Iranian retaliatory strike.

President Donald Trump has said the campaign could last a month or longer. On Tuesday, senators attended a closed-door briefing with Trump administration officials, who apparently did nothing to ease Democratic senators’ concerns. Addressing reporters on Capitol Hill after the briefing, Blumenthal said he believes the deployment of soldiers to Iran is a real possibility:

I just want to say that I am more fearful than ever after this briefing that we may be putting boots on the ground and that troops from the United States may be necessary to accomplish objectives that the administration seems to have.

We need to send everyone who owns a MAGA hat, tee-shirt, or a yard sign.

Let's see how much they love him when they are dodging bullets for him.

Real life isn't a video game and in war the opponents aren't unarmed women, children, the disabled, the elderly, etc.

"Oh wait, these SOBs shoot back!"

I don't think they have objectives or a clear vision of what constitutes victory.

That's the problem with conservatives in general and MAGAts in particular. It's all impulse and knee-jerk reactions with them. Never any forethought.

We've had several good examples of what happens when we do that. Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan; all disasters for our soldiers because we sent them into foreign wars where the population of the countries we attacked were not supportive of our presence.
We fooled ourselves 3 times into thinking we would have their support, and we did have some, but too many of the people resented our presence and were increasingly hostile to our troops.
So now we may do it again. I hope not, but Trump is as stupid as they come, and he's being guided by people who have agendas that may pressure him to do so.

It's being said that this war may cost us over 200 billion dollars, but that doesn't include "boots on the ground". If we do this, it could easily balloon up to several times that amount.
And you and I would be paying for this, while certain corporations would reap gigantic profits supplying the war effort.

They've already knocked off the Supreme Leader. They're just bombing civilians from here on out. A ground force would just be trump playing Army with our soldiers lives.
