House Democrats accuse DOGE of 'breaking the government'

A new report from House Democrats concludes that President Trumps Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was nothing short of a catastrophe. The 47-page report, published Thursday by House Oversight Democrats, argues that DOGEs interest was to serve Trumps wealthy allies rather than to reduce costs for the federal government and for Americans.
The consequence, it claims, ultimately cost Americans more, both financially and psychologically through cuts to essential programs, violations of privacy laws, reckless handling of Americans data and deception of the American public. Through DOGE alone, President Trump has cost the American people billions of dollars in damage and an intangible amount of waste and suffering, Democrats wrote in their report.
President Trump used DOGE as a smokescreen to make billionaires richer at the expense of hardworking Americans. America needs serious oversight and government reform that is by, of, and for the American peoplenot reckless and corrupt billionaires, the report added.
Trump implemented DOGE as soon as he stepped into office last January, putting billionaire donor Elon Musk in charge of cutting government spending, slashing regulations, restructuring agencies and downsizing the federal workforce. The department had a long-term goal of reducing the nations more than $30 trillion debt by $1 trillion. As of Jan 1., DOGE reported having saved the federal government $215 billion. House Democrats say DOGEs own cost-saving reports are wildly inaccurate, also claiming that Trump funneled $81 million into the entity with virtually no transparency or mechanisms of accountability.

DOGE has probably done the most damage across all agencies because it was given unconstitutional authority to turn off disbursements at the U.S. Treasury.
