Proposed Alberta separation referendum question approved

Source: Global News

Alberta’s election agency announced Monday it has approved a proposed referendum question on the province separating from Canada.

The question seeks a yes or no answer to: “Do you agree that the province of Alberta should cease to be a part of Canada to become an independent state?”

Elections Alberta says the proponent — the Alberta Prosperity Project and its chief executive officer, Mitch Sylvestre — have until early January to appoint a financial officer for its petition campaign, after which signature collection can begin.

Alberta is the most right-wing province in the country and I expect this could get traction going forward. They're already working on a law to take the province out of the Canada Pension Plan. Nothing like destabilizing the country more than Trump has already succeeded in doing with his tariffs.

Canadian Natural Resources (CNRL), Suncor Energy, Cenovus Energy, and Imperial Oil -- want to privatize the entire province into a corporate province. Enbridge leads in energy infrastructure.

Much of these companies' oil is exported to the U.S., and they'll likely be working with U.S. energy oligarchs like
Harold Hamm (Continental Resources), Kelcy Warren (Energy Transfer), Charles Koch, Jeffery Hildebrand, and Timothy Dunn, alongside powerful CEOs like Vicki Hollub (Occidental Petroleum) and Thomas A. Fanning (Southern Company), who all leverage their positions to impact policy for profit, particularly concerning deregulation and infrastructure expansion.

Alberta Justice Rules That Provincial Separation Without Informed Consent Violates Treaty Rights

ANNews) – Alberta Judge Colin Feasby has ruled that a proposed citizen-initiated referendum on provincial separation is unconstitutional. In a decision delivered on December 5, 2025 – just hours after the provincial government introduced Bill 14 to bypass the Court of King’s Bench – Justice Feasby ruled that the move violates both Charter rights and the Numbered Treaties that form Alberta’s very foundation.

Our problem is we have the most one-toothed, cross-eyed, sister-fucking goobers this side of Oklahoma in our population; however, they've always been a noisy minority. The Forever Canada petition collected 456,000 signatures well before its deadline. This stupid petition will never get off the ground.

the majority of Albertans do not support separation even though the despicable provincial government is doing everything they can do to support this through various legislative acts while trying to pretend they are only working to be more 'democratic' in it's behavior.

The majority of Albertans also do not support leaving the Canadian Pension Plan much as, again, this despicable party would wish it to be so as they would like to get their hands on the money and use it to support the oil industry instead of putting it in a lock box as it currently is under the federal government policy.
