Never Trumper George Conway Seeks Democratic Nomination for Manhattan Congressional Seat

Source: MEDIAite

Dec 22nd, 2025, 11:53 am

Never Trumper and former Republican George Conway filed Monday to run for Congress in Manhattan as a Democrat. According to the New York Post, Conway will seek election in New York’s 12th Congressional District, the reliably blue Manhattan seat currently held by outgoing veteran lawmaker Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), who announced in September he would not seek re-election in 2026.

Co-founder of The Lincoln Project, Conway became a fixture among conservative anti-Trump critics, skewering what he argued were constitutional violations, ethical breaches and democratic backsliding.

Conway was married for 22 years to President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager-turned-first term White House counselor Kellyanne Conway. The pair, who have four children, divorced in 2023. Conway himself was considered for several positions in the president’s first term administration, but ultimately decided not to take any role. Instead he became one of Trump’s most vocal critics.

He will now target a district considered one of the safest Democratic seats in the country, meaning the real contest will unfold in a crowded and competitive primary rather than a general election.

It has some of the most highly-prized real estate in the country. Good luck George, but I expect you'll have a lot of company in the primary election.

We really don't need any more Junior Republicans taking up space, especially in strong blue districts.

THIS is exactly why the party needs to be much more clear about the brand that Democrats are trying to establish. I'm afraid the answer is that the party at large has no concept of branding. The more right-wingers that you allow in the party, the harder it is for the rest to get elected.

Granted, he is a right-winger who hates Trump. But that's not good enough.

They're listed in the next paragraph of the article. Maybe that wasn't there yet when you posted, but that's probably a good paragraph to include (i.e. instead of one of the last 2 paragraphs you included).

...designed as background for people who have been living under a rock. So at least that's an easy cut if there is a desire to include a paragraph further down (which is especially useful if the paragraph further down is the one that addresses the subject line, the thing that was the reason people would have clicked on the item to begin with).

to introduce/summarize the subject.

But again, for "neatness and clarity", I do direct copy/pastes from the top and the OPs, per the LBN OP form, all automatically have a field to link to the full article, and in a number of cases, the articles aren't lengthy at all and we are restricted to "4 paragraphs" for copyright purposes.

Like I said - I'll do that if replying or posting in another forum but not LBN (where I will also try to include "value-added" content in the "Comments" like links to any lawsuits, press releases, statements, reports, publications, and references to earlier OPs on the subject, etc.).

I am scanning through over 3 dozen news sites to find stuff.

...I just think it's kind of a waste here, when you're allowed only 4 paragraphs, to include that stuff that virtually every DU reader would know anyway, at least when some other paragraph beyond the first 4 contains more of the relevant meat.

Though yes, I understand, you scan a lot of news sources, and often include supplemental stuff, and time is limited.

past a "headline".

Doing snips and section separations is also a lot of "manual" work - especially when you have sites with their text formatting on the webpage with some kind of wrapper, so when copying, the paste is pure text and the paragraphs end up as a run-ons, and the sentence and paragraph separations have to be manually done to get it reformatted here. Reuters is notorious for that.

Tue Dec 23, 2025, 12:28 AM

21st century "journalism" is exactly the opposite. It is all about clickbait and retention. The old way was to put the essential info in the first paragraph, then add detail for those who cared to read on.

The new way is to try to build a series of cliffhangers, to string the reader along past 25 ads and popups before providing the only thing the reader was actually trying to find out.

But the colleges are still kicking out writers who know the structure and it's not so much the content but the clickbait "headlines" (that may be created by a totally different person/group than the article-writer). You do have some entities that have ditched their editors in a cost-cutting move too and that is a pity!

I still think there has been an evolution towards too much "sound bite" stuff that results in consumers having shorter and shorter attention spans.

Science denial, deregulation, no enforcement of white collar crimes, giveaways to their rich owners, and when in doubt, start a fucking war. There is no such thing as a moral Republican. Same with the "libertarian" assholes. They are just recycled confederates.
