One of the two students killed in the mass shooting at Brown University is Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, a freshman who graduated just a few months ago from Midlothian High School in Chesterfield, Virginia.
"Such a profound tragedy for his family and our broader Midlothian community," Virginia State Sen. Ghazala Hashmi wrote on Facebook. "I keep his family and all who loved this young man in my thoughts and in my prayers."
A social media post from the American Uzbekistan Association said that Umurzokov was "a bright and promising Uzbek American student."
"Mukhammad Aziz was known for his sharp intellect, kind heart, and quiet willingness to help anyone in need," the organization wrote. "He carried himself with humility and compassion, earning the respect and affection of those around him. His curiosity, discipline, and generosity reflected both his character and the values of the community that raised him."
