Mar-a-Lago judge issues weekend order allowing Trump to oppose release of Jack Smith's report

After ignoring, for months on end, the reminders from groups interested in shedding sunlight on ex-special counsel Jack Smith's Mar-a-Lago report, the judge who tossed out the prosecution is letting President Donald Trump register his opposition, as he requested roughly two weeks ago.

The brief Sunday order from U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee who remains on an 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals deadline to rule on two groups' attempts to intervene for the purposes of lifting an injunction blocking the release of Volume II of Smith's report, stated only that Trump's motion to participate as a friend of the court or amicus curiae was granted. "No additional filings are permitted by this Order," Cannon added.

The order comes not long, relatively speaking, after Trump on Dec. 2 sought to back the efforts of his former classified documents case co-defendants, valet Waltine Nauta and Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos de Oliveira, keeping Volume II of Smith's report hidden.

That day, Trump requested "leave to participate in the proceedings as amicus curiae for the limited purpose of reaffirming and incorporating by reference his prior legal arguments to the Court, as well as those made by co-defendants Nauta and De Oliveira, that Volume II of Jack Smith's Final Report should not be made public."

proper speed that any other citizen would have seen there would have been a conviction for not only Crumb The 1st but others as well. We might even have gotten to some of the who, what and for how much of where some of the documents went.

THIS one was TSF's number one game changer trial! SAVED his ASS for sure. Wonder if Jack Smith is wondering if TSF should have been charged in Washington? (i mean i wonder if Jack ever second guessed that part) I'm 100% sure Jack did the right thing, but Cannon was the MONSTER number two! We Will never know i guess!

That is why his report should be public, we deserve to know. I want to know if he sold, or traded, our secrets to Saudi Arabia, or Russia.

Since he is no longer in the federal government, there isn't much that he can do.

This has become a First Amendment case now, brought by multiple orgs - Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University and American Oversight - who have sued for the release, along with an earlier NYT suit - https://www.democraticunderground.com/10143473665

11. Could Jack Smith release the report to some Congress persons who could publish it.

I was thinking of the Pentagon papers back many years ago.

I suppose if Dems ever get control of one of the chambers of congress they could subpoena the report as part of their oversight duties.

I know Smith is suppose to be in a closed hearing. What could he talk about publicly after that?

(like all those classified docs that 45 stole that Vol. II is about)

So Smith wouldn't have it. DOJ and the courts have it.

I think the 11th Circuit is going to have to put their foot down on her (they have done it before with her idiotic "Special Master" delay-a-thon trick that the 11th Circuit ended to get them moving again back when she was first assigned the case).
