NEW YORK (AP) — Peter Greene, a character actor best known for his role as the iconic villain Zed in “Pulp Fiction,” has died. He was 60.

He died in his home in New York City, his manager, Gregg Edwards confirmed on Friday. His cause of death was not immediately released.

“He was just a terrific guy,” said Edwards. “Arguably one of the greatest character actors on the planet; Has worked with everybody.”

He was such a great foil to Jim Carrey in “The Mask,” and even the brief opening scene in the pilot episode of “Justified” was perfectly acted—again, as if written with him in mind.

He was also in the Mask. Not a huge Tarantino fan, but in the last 14.5 years of my life I have had reason to learn to see the accuracy of that one line about “comfortable silence”. Can’t say I have ever had that with our growing surveillance state.

Looking up the rest of “Zed’s” career made me think of it, since another of his movies “Clean, Shaven” about a schizophrenic.

In a way that’s why I post here some I suppose. I am a scientist, in an uncomplicated field far from anything brain related, but I am maintaining a rough online journal on DU crudely correlating it with my estimation of the general local overall noise level going forward.

Just brief notes depending on how exasperated ( hate noise ;-/) I am…

If anyone happened to take a look at my mess of a journal (not recommended), I wouldn’t blame you for wondering if I was a DUer with mental health or other issues and I am not. Too complicated to explain and not worth it all around.

I am making a note here: Sept 5, 2011 (it was the Tuesday after Labor Day that year if I recollect) - Dec 16, 2025 (As memoranda, I saw in DUer IrisBlue’s breakfast thread that Dec 16, 1944 was the date of one of the last attacks by Nazi forces ..I forget where..France maybe).

Anyway DU has certain pleasant rhythms and that’s one. The breakfasts and dinners of some DUers all the way around the world. That’s sort of fun internet old school style .
