US senators push USDA for urgent action on bird flu vaccine

Source: Reuters

December 11, 2025 6:07 AM EST Updated 3 hours ago

WASHINGTON, Dec 11 (Reuters) - A bipartisan group of U.S. senators this week urged the administration of President Donald Trump to finalize a science-based plan for developing a bird flu vaccine for livestock, according to a letter seen by Reuters.

More than 180 million chickens, turkeys and other poultry have been killed due to an outbreak of bird flu that began in 2022. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said in June that it was developing a potential poultry vaccination plan, but has not released further details.

The USDA should take "renewed action" to fight bird flu as infections rise during the winter months, said 23 U.S. senators in a letter sent on Wednesday to Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and reported first by Reuters.

"Any finalized vaccine strategy must take into account feedback from animal health stakeholders, industry experts, and be grounded in sound science," said the letter, led by Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, the top Democrat on the Senate Agriculture Committee, and Republican U.S. Senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota.

1. This strain of HPAI (highly pathogenic avian influenza--aka "bird flu") is hitting waterfowl particularly hard in CO

I walk a local lake with tons of geese and ducks -- so far, so good. But if more than three are found dead or symptomatic
Affect WILD birds may show neurologic symptoms, including:
Inability to fly or swim in circles.
Loss of coordination or balance.
Swollen or tilting heads.
Sudden death.

CO Dept of Wildlife has asked to be directly notified. Those outside Colorado should also report similarly to their own state wildlife department. Obviously, don't handle and don't let your dogs approach any dead birds.

US Jobless Claims Jump by Most Since 2020 After Holiday Drop, Bloomberg, 12/11/25
(no paywall issues)
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/us-jobless-claims-jump-most-135138504.htm
the seasonally adjusted initial claims increased from last week by 44,000 to 236,000 (edited to add "from last week by" )
FROM THE SOURCE - https://www.dol.gov/ui/data.pdf
the unadjusted initial claims increased to 313,140

So maybe they can be employed to do urgent action on bird flu vaccine ?

Edited changed the
"unadjusted claims increased by 313,140"
to
"unadjusted initial claims increased to 313,140"

and Disney and ignored the jobless claims - i.e., no blaring "breaking news" banners (they might get around to it later today).

I do have a sub to Bloomberg but they generally only allow 5 "free" gift articles per month (although last year at this time, they gave subs a "present" of allowing 10 "free" gift articles for that month (like most of those that do gifts). I do try to find aggregators that will do Bloomberg, so have your Yahoo! Finance link.

Posting in a sec!

Nuff said. Do will think Graham will do a thing about his state’s Measles outbreak, and piss off trump and Jr?
We should make damn sure to avoid any city hosting trumps traveling Petri Dish of MAGA red outfitted trump ass leaches, a few hundred strong, all disease vectors willing to spread their shit in your city. Then leave a wake of disease and death behind, with unpaid bills from the shit show of trump’s rambling 2 hour carnival ride.
War on science will kill us with a resurgence of long forgotten diseases with no health insurance affordable. And vaccines outlawed. Is this the Great AGAIN you MAGA idiots are waiting for? Getting Fucked by trump and his band of billionaires, is NOT the sexual experience you were wet dreaming about.
Deadly Diseases come with that joyride.

Under his regime. Fully backed by orange God and his cult. Rub some dirt on the birds and strengthen their immune system.
I believe multiple diseases are coming with no science allowed until after many millions die, and then “maybe” a mad rush to get to research. But it will be too late.
I am old enough to remember stacked bodies in refrigerated trucks and everybody was praying for a rapid vax to save them, and cheering nurses and doctors.
My daughter was one of those nurse, and by the time Fux was through with lies, her and her co workers needed security to walk to their cars after 12 hour shifts because of death threats from poisoning us with vaccines.
Hope I am wrong, but look where we are at.
