'People aren't dumb': Republicans worry they're not doing enough on affordability

Source: NBC News

Dec. 6, 2025, 5:00 AM EST

WASHINGTON — Congressional Republicans are starting to publicly and privately sound the alarm about their party’s disjointed strategy to address Americans’ affordability concerns, with some growing increasingly frustrated with President Donald Trump’s sometimes cavalier attitude toward the subject.

While Republicans say the high cost of living is a problem they inherited from President Joe Biden, many GOP lawmakers still think their party needs to sharpen its own message and platform ahead of the midterms — or else it could cost them their tenuous majorities in Congress.

“If we don’t do that, we would be morons, because the economy is very much on people’s minds,” Rep. Tony Gonzales, a Texas Republican, told NBC News. Democrats “failed to really hammer the economy, and it cost them the election,” he added. “If we as Republicans fail to do the same, it wouldn’t surprise me if we had a similar turnout.”

Nearly two dozen Republican senators, House members, strategists and congressional aides shared their concerns about their party’s handling of affordability in interviews with NBC News. Another six acknowledged the issue but said the party will settle on the right strategy to address it.

1. We already know their "strategy to address it" because it will be the same as their strategy on everything

Which is "let's bullshit and gaslight the fuck out of everyone about it".

Point of fact: The GQP "solution" to any problem is never the actual "right thing", it's *always* to lie about it. It's in their DNA. And Mango Mussolini is the living embodiment of this strategy, because he LIVES to lie, about EVERYTHING he possibly can.

5. Point 1. A lot of people are dumb

That's evidenced in the fact that they can be continually conned by a conman and felon reputed for his voluminous lies.

Point 2. Republicans know this because their success is based on scads of lies that smart people can debunk with little effort.

Point 3. Noticing that you can't afford basic necessities is not a sign of intellect.

They aren't doing shit about affordability. As a matter of fact, real fact, they're actually making it worse for everyone. Their only interest is to kiss that f***ing ring. I'm willing to bet they don't know the meaning of the word, or how to spell it. And now they're worried about it? Give me a friggin break.

7. Its not that generally "people aren't dumb". Many are. They are the R base.

Its just that some Republicans are realizing that they can't count on "the uneducated" to blindly go along with them, as they usually do, when it involves their own survival and cost of living.

If there weren't any dumb people Republicans would only get the votes of the wealthy.

8. not doing enough?...well, only if you consider generational farmers

and ranchers going bust because of Trump's tariffs an affordability issue...or buying beef from Argentina and soybeans from China an affordability issue...or how about fruits/vegetables rotting in fields because Trump is deporting seasonal workers who glean those fields resulting in soaring grocery prices an affordability issue...

It's obvious those "alarmed" Republicans are unable to read the room...their constituents have turned against them...town halls have morphed into name-calling shouting forums...crying Trump voting Republicans are taking to media platforms to trash Trump and his revenge-fueled "economic" agenda..

and then there's Dementia Don referring to affordability as a "Democrat hoax"...

the so-called alarmed Republicans should be more terrified of their constituents back home rather than Trump's threat to primary them...

First, they aren’t doing anything. Second, didn’t Cantaloupe Caligula the Corpulent say that affordability was a con job?

Assholes can’t even get on the same page of lies.

17. try this: say the sentence to yourself first

"YOU'RE" always means YOU ARE

so "YOU'RE TWO WEEKS ARE UP" becomes YOU ARE TWO WEEKS ARE UP - that is not correct so you would use YOUR

do that and you're sure to get it right (which translates into DO THAT AND YOU ARE SURE TO GET IT RIGHT - which is correct)
