Violent tornadoes that ripped through parts of the U.S. proved deadly as well as destructive as whipping winds moved east into the Mississippi Valley and Deep South on Saturday, with at least 17 people killed and scores of homes decimated.
The most fatalities as of Saturday morning were in Missouri, authorities said, which was pounded by scattered twisters overnight that resulted in at least 11 deaths. The Missouri State Highway Patrol also reported that multiple people were injured.
The deaths included a man who was killed after a tornado ripped apart his home.
It was unrecognizable as a home. Just a debris field, said Coroner Jim Akers of Butler County, describing the scene that confronted rescuers when they arrived. The floor was upside down. We were walking on walls.

(2,937 posts)I live in a red town in a known red state. If my house were destroyed, I would not appreciate the posthumous implication that I voted for TSF and knew what was coming so I deserved it. Kind of rough accusation unless you personally know the person who died in his collapsed house and that he voted for TSF.

To be honest, Trump loves attention, as long as it builds up his ego. Natural disasters are depressing. Trump don't do depressing things. So Trump just ignores or distracts and the crowd follows.

Read this morning that 32 have died, probably many injures, and property destroyed. Yes, I'm praying.

(1,593 posts)Millions Americans across the country are on alert for a severe weather outbreak as violent, long-track tornadoes with damaging winds of up to 80 mph and large hail are expected across the Midwest and South with the cross-country storm moving east.
The same storm system delivered raging winds to the Plains states earlier, leading to wildfires and severe dust storms that left more than a dozen people dead in Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma.
Overall, at least 34 deaths have been recorded from the cross-country storm system.

(5,042 posts)Amarillo. Dust storms are nothing new and this one, although bad, is far from the worst. But the population of Amarillo has grown in the last decade. Winds not only bring dust, they also down power lines and spread wildfires. Last year more than a million acres in the area burned.
