As Canadians cancel trips due to Trump, the U.S. tourism industry could lose billions

Leena Yousefi and her family typically visit Hawaii four or five times a year. The Vancouver attorney used to live in Maui and had booked another trip for this year.

But that was before President Trump, shortly after taking office in January, said he would impose 25% tariffs on many Canadian goods and repeated his wish to turn the country into the 51st U.S. state. "Obviously out of loyalty to Canada and our values and just holding our ground, we had to cancel," Yousefi said.

Her family was even considering buying a two-bedroom condo in Hawaii given how often they vacation there. "But now we're looking at Costa Rica," she said. The Trump administration's recent attacks on its northern neighbor have been met with confusion, frustration and anger by many Canadians, some of whom are now abandoning their trips south and boycotting travel to the U.S. in protest.

Tourism industry leaders say that could pose a major threat to the U.S. travel sector, which relies heavily on Canadian visitors. According to the U.S. Travel Association, Canadians are the largest group of foreign visitors to the U.S. annually and accounted for $20.5 billion in spending last year alone. Florida, California, Nevada, New York and Texas are the top U.S. states for Canadian tourists.

We are wondering how we might be perceived if we travelled abroad. Ugly American has taken on even worse meaning than before.

Mainly in Wildwood NJ & nearby.
Wildwood is (was) very popular with Canadians. His business is off 80-90%. And what reservations he has are tenative. He makes almost all his yearly income from these summer rentals. He's been cryin' the Blues at the Bar lately.
By the way he's 100% MAGA. He rubbed it in constantly Election Day.
I don't feel sorry for him. His Wife & Kids,Yeah! But not him!
I'm not gonna rub it in though!

4. Tourism will die in the US even if we remove Canada from the equation.

Where do most people go on vacation? National parks and historic sites. Since most will be closed, that's going to kill the surrounding towns' tourist economies.

Who wants to fly in the US, now that air travel under Trump has become a death trap? Who wants to pay $4/gal to drive across the country for a vacation? Who will have the money to even take vacations with the price increases on everything?

The papers can blame the Canadians, but even Americans won't be "touristing" any more.

6. Hope all of them cancel their trips to our country, especially to Disney World in FL.

If they have to go to Disney, go to California, otherwise boycott the entire USA and PLEASE do not come to FL. Death Sentence deserves for FL tourism to dry up completely!
