House censures Democrat Al Green over his outburst at Trump's speech

Source: ABC News/MSN

The House voted on Thursday to censure Democrat Al Green over his outburst at President Donald Trump's speech to Congress on Tuesday night.

The Republican-led effort passed 224-198 with two members voting present, one of them being Green. Ten Democrats voted on the resolution to censure Green.

Green was ejected from the joint session on Tuesday after interrupting the president's speech and refusing to sit down despite warnings from Speaker Mike Johnson.

By Wednesday morning, several members of the GOP conference were circulating different resolutions to censure Green. Republican Rep. Dan Newhouse was the first to formally introduce a resolution on the House floor on Wednesday.

What hurt the effort here was that Al Green stood up alone. I want EVERY Democrat to make it clear, at every opportunity, that His MAGAsty does not deserve respect. He has taken a dump on the presidency, and respect for the office itself will need to be earned again after he's gone.

... and they think it's funny. (I'm not making that up; I've heard them joking about how upset Blacks are at efforts to claw back the civil rights movement -- they literally take it as "retribution" for being "uppity."

I've read several posts in recent days essentially saying "let's get along". You don't get along with these crazies. You weaken them until you can destroy them, and that is what we have got to do.

Every Democrat should have gotten up and walked out WITH Al Green. We are far beyond "playing nice". You play nice; you die.

Appreciate that someone else "gets it".

this does not work. Narcissists are going to do their thing, no matter what the reaction is. You will not "nice" them into anything.

In normal circumstances, I'd agree that the President deserves minimal respect when giving the State of the Union address -- but there's NOTHING normal about our reality now!

Not a penny more in donations until democrats stop attacking their own. Fucking hell, don't we have enough problems with the GOP without attacking those on our own side. I am completely disgusted.

Do you all know who Al Green is? He represents some of the most marginalized neighborhoods in Houston. He is fighting for civil rights, against poverty, against big business, etc - every single day. They should be ashamed of themselves for attacking this gentleman.

Democrats are not united like Republicans which seems to be in their/our DNA. Open mindedness is a good trait, but there are times when it’s not needed. And this definitely wasn’t in view of the national threat we are facing.

Can't believe they didn't follow him out.
Can't believe that ANY dems would vote to censure him let alone 10 dems. Really in disbelief over this one.
Fox news had a field day with this
Keep an eye on those 10 dems. .
Hound the crap out of them.

I thought it was bad with Manchin and Sinema. Turns out they might've been the good ones.
