'Vile, Ignorant And Racist': GOP Account Ripped Over 'Disgusting' Attack On Dem Lawmaker

Source: Huff Post

Mar 6, 2025, 04:59 AM EST

A Republican-run social media account is coming under fire for what critics are calling a “vile” and “racist” attack on a U.S. lawmaker this week. After Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY) delivered the Spanish-language rebuttal to President Donald Trump’s speech to a joint session of Congress, the National Republican Congressional Committee slammed him as an “illegal immigrant.”

Espaillat and his family came to the United States from the Dominican Republic roughly 60 years ago, when he was a child. They overstayed their tourist visas, making them undocumented, but obtained green cards within a year. He has been a U.S. citizen for more than 40 years, and in 2016 became the first formerly undocumented immigrant elected to Congress.

But the NRCC slammed his response to the speech not for what he said, but for what he once was, briefly, as a child decades ago. “Democrats literally chose an illegal immigrant to give their response to President Trump’s address,” the organization wrote on X. “Predictably, this radical called Trump’s presidency a ‘reign of terror.’ Democrats couldn’t be more disconnected from the American people”

It’s not clear who wrote the tweet, but the organization is chaired by Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.). Critics ― including many of Espaillat’s colleagues ― fired back at the NRCC in his defense

This is disgusting, racist, and low, even for the NRCC.

No, just the narrow-minded, short-sighted, self-centered, willfully ignorant, hypocritical, meanspirited and callous reactionary bigots who voted for this vindictive malignant narcissist because he hates the same people they do -- i.e. just the SHITTIEST American people.

been known the words they use in private and also known that in public things like the "n" word are right on the tip of their tongues. It was very common in the early to mid part of the 1900's for southern GQP elected officials to use the word openly or to drawl "Negro" in such a way that it sounded the same.

Unfortunately in business I have had to spend time with some of these types. Everyone with a brownish skin is referred to derisively as a "Mexican" no matter where they are from. Italians, people from Middle Eastern countries etc. all get lumped in with that word.

In the northern states they were slightly more guarded in using words. But not by a lot and the sentiment was the same no matter the reluctance to use the words.

The whole of the southern Europeans were treated that way - Spaniards (along the Mediterranean), Italians (and especially the Sicilians), those in southern France, and the Greeks (although they held them up as the "founders of western civilization" but then discriminated against them at the same time if they saw one and had no idea where they were from ).

most GQP people in the US and asked them to draw an "African" the skin color would certainly be black. Little to no understanding that Egyptians and other North African people are even there. Zero understanding and knowledge of the history of the Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Near East. As in the book "A Line in the Sand" illustrates it all comes down to the old idea of "rip out the resources" and whatever the rest is can be damned. It is a very good read from the perspective not only of how the Middle East got screwed up in the 1900's but also is very important to understanding the current situation in Syria with all of the various factions.

The Brits and the French went at it hammer and tong over the region while not learning or understanding a damn thing about the people who lived there. T.E. Lawrence saw the need somewhat about understanding and respecting the various groups but it was still in the context of exerting outside control and influence while using them for resources, ports and military positioning. So to the Brits and the French it was a simple matter of drawing borders and herding people within them. The ramifications of such hubris and ignorance are with us still today and the Syrian situation currently has history repeating for the umpteenth time.

The Census Bureau was finally trying to address some of this - for example how many North Africans were automatically considered "Caucasian' or "white".

Now I have BEEN to Egypt and most (including many Arabs) are the opposite of that, especially in southern Egypt ( "Upper Egypt" ) with the native Nubians.

Next U.S. census will have new boxes for 'Middle Eastern or North African,' 'Latino'

U.S. Census changes how it identifies people by race and ethnicity, creates Middle Eastern category for first time

(snip)

A Middle Eastern and North African category will be added to the choices available for questions about race and ethnicity. People descended from places such as Lebanon, Iran, Egypt and Syria had been encouraged to identify as white, but now will have the option of identifying themselves in the new group. Results from the 2020 census, which asked respondents to elaborate on their backgrounds, suggest that 3.5 million residents identify as Middle Eastern and North African.

"the line on the color bar". Good to see the Census Bureau making this change. I can remember when I was a kid sometimes a child with darker skin than their peers would be teased about needing to "go scrub" because they were "dirty". I have a very long memory for some of the things many forget.

Expect that Census change to be ditched once 45 finds it. The hope is that it can be restored before the 2030 Census.

they are fraud, waste, and abuse. And we can stop pretending this has anything to do with citizenship since Congressman Adriano Espaillat is an easily proven US Citizen.

Was an illegal immigrant and she committed visa fraud getting into the country.

She came in on an Einstein visa. Who signed off on that? Just what we need another Slovanian Sex Worker to add to the thousands of Slovanian Sex Workers already in the US.

She is just as psychotic as pedo Trump, only better looking. Psychopaths always seem to find each other.

defense instead of offense!

The Democrats should have immediately stated that the NRCC and Republicans voted for, still support and elected a convicted felon.
But no, we had to try to defend instead of going on the offensive!

Donald Trump literally chose an illegal immigrant to take over Americans’ private information, bank accounts, Social security, and has given him the keys to our national security. This “illegal immigrant” was never elected, never confirmed and is decimating programs, initiatives, agencies and offices that keep us safe.
