How Elon Musk's DOGE cost cuts don't make sense: Report

Source: The Independent

If Elon Musk fired every single federal worker his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) would only save a quarter of the money he promised to save and would amount to a piddling 4 percent of annual federal spending, according to a new report.

That doesn’t even count the massive $36 trillion U.S. debt.

Musk, meanwhile, is maneuvering for an additional $2.4 billion federal contract for his SpaceX company. And some members of his crew of DOGE workers are reportedly collecting six-figure salaries funded by American taxpayers as they slash an estimated tens of thousands of federal jobs for others.

A New York Times podcast has mocked Musk’s antics as the “useless spending cut theater of DOGE.”

that Republicans have been pushing for the last several decades, because yes, the math proves that it's all pandering, grifting right-wing wet dream bullshit with no basis in reality. It's no different from their obsession with "voter fraud", an almost nonexistent problem in this country. Modern conservatism is nothing but crazy-ass, authoritarian "solutions" in search of "problems" that are mostly either insignificant or outright fucking lies.

I was at a thing like 15 years ago where we discussed solutions to various issues, and I mentioned medieval Venice and some of what went on there ("Doge", get it? Ha ha, little Musk - go play in the corner). Probably a coincidence, but first this sumbitch names a cryptocurrency after it, and now a fraudulent federal department that's impoverishing civil servants. I'm feeling all sorts of shit.
