'Woke Words' Could Be Banned Under Republican Proposal

A bill seeking to eliminate "woke" words and phrases has been introduced in the West Virginia Legislature. Kathie Hess Crouse, one of the 11 Republican state delegates who sponsored the legislation, told Newsweek that she introduced it because "words matter" and "state government should reflect truth, clarity, and realitynot political agendas." Newsweek has contacted the other Republican state delegates who sponsored the legislation as well as Democratic delegates for comment via email.
Why It Matters
To be "woke," according to Merriam-Webster, means to be "aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)." In recent years, critics of the concept have co-opted the word as a pejorative to describe anything or anyone who is or appears to be left-leaning.
Since President Donald Trump's return to the White House, he has launched a fight against "wokeness," ordering an end to the government's diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Trump also told reporters in the Oval Office earlier this month, following his takeover of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, that he would ensure future programming would no longer be "woke."
What To Know
On Monday, West Virginia delegates introduced House Bill 2406, which seeks to eliminate "woke words and agendas from state government documents, websites, literature, and in person," the bill said. The bill also said that in official government documents, websites and literature as well as in person, certain "exclusionary and sexist terms" should be replaced with "accurate, female-affirming alternatives."

When one loon state does something like this, other zombie loon states will copy it.
But you know that we were told the election was about "Price of eggs", "Kitchen table issues", "Working class".

(8,733 posts)For example, Opus Dei translate to "Work of God".
We see DEI as an acronym for Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion. Those concepts reflect the teachings of Jesus, so attacking DEI can be seen as an attack against the founder of the Catholic, and all Christian Religions, and, untimately, and attack on God.
It's evident that being against DEI is to be part of the forces of darkness...Hate attacking Love.

(25,240 posts)Hate attacking love is right! They want to outlaw love and mandate hate, outlaw good and mandate evil. That sums it all up.

(11,375 posts)genetive singular case of deus, meaning god, a god, or the god. The plural nominative case has the same form. Church Latin is as far as I remember grammatically very close to Classical Latin. The pronunciation is way different though. (see,12 years of Latin masses in Catholic schools is good for something)
The founders of Opus Dei knew what they were doing when they chose that name

(22,981 posts)"Mr. Google, was Jesus woke?"
Yes, some say that Jesus was "woke" because he challenged injustice, embraced diversity, and cared for the marginalized.
Examples of Jesus' "woke" actions
Challenged injustice
Jesus spoke out against social injustice and religious hypocrisy. He criticized systems that didn't care for the vulnerable.
Embraced diversity
Jesus associated with people from marginalized groups, like prostitutes, tax collectors, and lepers. He also allowed women to have a place among his disciples.
Cared for the marginalized
Jesus healed the sick, stood up for the poor, and cared for widows.
Practiced inclusivity
Jesus taught the Golden Rule, "Do to others as you would have them do to you."
Protested religious elitism
Jesus taught against the false doctrines and practices of the religious elites of his day.
