Texas banned abortion. Then sepsis rates soared.

Source: CNN

Published 7:00 AM EST, Fri February 21, 2025

Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion in 2021, ProPublica found in a first-of-its-kind data analysis.

The rate of sepsis shot up more than 50% for women hospitalized when they lost their pregnancies in the second trimester, ProPublica found.

The surge in this life-threatening condition, caused by infection, was most pronounced for patients whose fetus may still have had a heartbeat when they arrived at the hospital.

ProPublica previously reported on two such cases in which miscarrying women in Texas died of sepsis after doctors delayed evacuating their uteruses. Doing so would have been considered an abortion.

My FiL had it from kidney stones. I had a small bout causing a blocked prostate. These people are killers hiding under their lawmaking abilities.

But her father never forgave her for killing his wife. Daisy never had a chance and it ruined her life. She became addicted to alcohol and, even though she was finally able to quit drinking, she was ruined physically and it was too late to save her. All of us who knew her loved her. She was a sweet, wonderful woman and I loved her even after divorcing her brother. I spoke at her service and barely made it through my remarks before breaking down in tears. Years later, my transgendered grandchild chose her name for her new life. I think Daisy would approve and it gives me some peace.

There's no other place in the USA as hostile towards women than Texas.
