Japanese Americans protest Trump immigration policy in Seattle

Demonstrators rallied in Seattles Chinatown International District on Wednesday to commemorate the Day of Remembrance and protest the Trump administrations actions overhauling the countrys immigration system and targeting migrant communities.
During the rally led by Tsuru for Solidarity, a social justice and immigrant rights organization, organizers called attention to the xenophobia, arrests and deportations immigrants currently face, which they say echo the trauma and violence Japanese Americans faced during World War II.
The Day of Remembrance commemorates President Franklin D. Roosevelts signing of Executive Order 9066 on Feb. 19, 1942, which authorized the forced removal and incarceration of more than 110,000 people of Japanese descent from the West Coast. About 70% of the people incarcerated were U.S. citizens.
