Trump ignites firestorm after revoking NYC congestion pricing: 'We'll see you in court'
Source: NJ.com
President Donald Trump’s move to revoke New York City’s congestion pricing plan has sparked major backlash from state and local officials.
The Trump administration announced Wednesday that it would be revoking its approval of New York City’s congestion pricing program, which went into effect earlier this year. The move was met with immediate criticism from many New York officials, while some New Jersey officials praised it.
U.S. Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) ripped the Trump administration for the decision and threatened a legal battle, claiming that the Transportation Department’s argument is “utterly baseless and frankly, laughable.”
“I firmly believe that there is no legal basis for the President to unilaterally halt this program. The Value Pricing Program is solidly established under federal law, and its approval cannot be arbitrarily revoked, especially when it is clearly delivering tangible benefits. Mr. President, we’ll see you in court,” Nadler wrote on X.

(121,638 posts)The MTA, which runs New York City’s vast subway and bus system, filed its lawsuit in the Southern District of New York federal court hours after the Transportation Department announced that it was rescinding the pilot program. The agency alleges that Duffy and other federal officials violated multiple federal procedure laws, including Fifth Amendment rights to due process. The MTA’s attorneys asked the court to stop the termination of the program.
“It’s mystifying that after four years and 4,000 pages of federally-supervised environmental review — and barely three months after giving final approval to the Congestion Relief Program — USDOT would seek to totally reverse course,” MTA chair and CEO Janno Lieber wrote.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) criticized the administration’s move, writing in a statement on X that congestion pricing has helped shorten commutes, increase foot traffic to businesses and increase taxi trips. She warned Trump that “we’ll see you in court.”
Eric A. Goldstein, a senior attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council who has worked on this issue for more than a decade, said the Transportation Department “has a heavy burden to convince a court that its 180-degree reversal of its previous position approving congestion pricing is based on new factual information and not simply a change in administrations.”

(5,373 posts)who is he to interfere in city, county, or state governments? He can't keep his nose clean doing the one thing he's suppose to do... governing the country as president. Now he wants to take on the cities' governments? Give me a fucking break. The man just wants to throw his weight around and prove that he's the best at being baddest evil out there. At that, he is definitely succeeding.

(37,146 posts)The Congestion Toll is unfair to the residents of Manhattan who own cars ... HOWEVER the toll is doing its job of reducing daylight traffic (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) which is horrendous in the city. There needs to be some way to mitigate costs to the Manhattan residents who have no other options for transportation. (Give the residents a discount or a rebate of some kind.)
If the commuters of NJ, CT, LI and upstate NY can find another way to get into the city ... good for them! That's why the city instituted the Congestion Toll. It's commuters that have created this mess, not the residents themselves.
Chump isn't helping to find a solution either, he's just being an asshole.
