The federal judge in Florida who dismissed Donald Trump’s indictment for allegedly mishandling classified documents has temporarily blocked the Justice Department from releasing special counsel Jack Smith’s report detailing the findings of that investigation.
U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon barred Smith and Attorney General Merrick Garland from “releasing, sharing, or transmitting” the report or any drafts or conclusions from it while a federal appeals court in Atlanta weighs an emergency motion from two of the president-elect’s former co-defendants.
The co-defendants said releasing the report would unfairly prejudice them. Their motion cited a letter from Trump’s attorneys that also argued the release of Smith’s findings was not in the public interest and would interfere with his presidency and his presidential transition.

(5,562 posts)Edited to point out it WAS in the public's interest to know what went down before voting for POTUS. Since Cannon was the sole reason we didn't get a trial on the matter in a timely manner, she can sit down and STFU.
Yeah, I have reached to point of being OK with being uncivil with these jerks working AGAINST the public's interests

(28,063 posts)… but there’s no force behind our disapprobation.
She’s a federal judge whose ruling that he wasn’t legally appointed to the role has not been overturned… and if he isn’t legally a special prosecutor, then he doesn’t have the power to produce reports.
And all she has to do is avoid getting overturned before the 20th (assuming this wasn’t a temporary order that she ends up undoing herself)

(28,063 posts)He can appeal her to a higher court but otherwise the judiciary is co-equal to the executive.
Get used to that argument from our side. Federal judges blocking executive officials until/unless they are overturned by higher courts will be our primary hope for at least the next two years
