A magnitude 6.8 earthquake has struck near one of Tibets holiest cities, the China Earthquake Networks Centre has said, damaging buildings around Shigatse and sending people running to the streets in neighbouring Nepal and India.
State media said 32 people had died in the quake, which hit at 9.05am on Tuesday with an epicentre depth of 10km (6.2 miles).
Thirty-two people have been confirmed dead and 38 injured during the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that jolted Dingri County in the city of Xigaze in Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region at 9:05am Tuesday, Xinhua news agency said, citing the regional disaster relief headquarters.

(48 posts)Tibet is a cold but amazing place and amazing people. I was there 30 years ago this last December for 3 weeks. Even made it to the city at the epicenter. The air is thin there due to the base altitude is over 10Kft.
