House GOP readies vote on new plan to avert government shutdown

Source: Washington Post

By Jacob Bogage and Marianna Sotomayor
House Republicans reached a last-minute deal that could fend off a weekend government shutdown, just 24 hours after President-elect Donald Trump and Elon Musk blew up a bipartisan compromise proposed by Speaker Mike Johnson.

-snip-

It also includes a last-minute demand by Trump to address the debt ceiling, a limit on how much the U.S. government can borrow, by suspending the limit until early 2027, extending a current suspension that was set to expire on Jan. 1, 2025.

But House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York) rejected the Republican-only deal ahead of a House Democratic caucus meeting, saying, “The Trump-Musk-Johnson proposal is laughable.”

If they stayed on their job long enough to get the business of the country going, they’d have to give up their many blocked work days n vacations. We get what we deserve with them because we don’t demand they do their jobs and keep re electing them.
