All 51 defendants found guilty in Gisele Pelicot rape case that horrified the world

Source: Radio New Zealand/Reuters

A French court found all 51 defendants guilty on Thursday in a drugging-and-rape case that horrified the world and transformed the victim, Gisele Pelicot, into a stirring symbol of courage and resilience.

Pelicot's ex-husband of 50 years, Dominique Pelicot, had pleaded guilty to drugging her repeatedly for almost a decade to rape her, and to offer up her unconscious body for sex to dozens of strangers he had met online, while videoing the abuse.

A panel of five judges sentenced him to the maximum 20 years in jail, as requested by prosecutors.

Prosecutors are also seeking terms of between four and 18 years for the other defendants, almost all of whom are accused of raping the comatose Gisele Pelicot.

Fifty other men were accused alongside Dominique Pelicot, most of whom denied the charges. The French court found 46 of them guilty of rape, two guilty of attempted rape and two guilty of sexual assault.

One man is on the run and being tried in his absence.

The presiding judge told the court that sentencing would be announced after all the verdicts had been delivered.

Sentences for the other criminals listed here - there is a feeling that they are low (mostly between 5 and 12 years):

She showed enormous courage and dignity to bring a heinous crime to the public. Far too many men the world over, and especially in Trump world, see rape as their right. Like their popular slogan says, “Your body, my choice.” Rape is too often treated as bots just being boys in this country either the victim put on trial for her clothing and being out alone.

true full-blown liberal or progressive. I do believe in the death penalty. These men are truly sick and depraved. Especially the husband.

That said, if it was still in use, I think the judge would be weighing it as a punishment option in this case.

- He was also convicted of placing hidden cameras in bathrooms and bedrooms in his own home and that of his family to make and distribute naked images of his adult daughter and the wives of his sons. -
