Mayorkas says federal authorities are addressing New Jersey drone sightings

Source: ABC News

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the federal government is taking action to address the aerial drones that have prompted concern among New Jersey residents.

“There's no question that people are seeing drones,” he told “This Week” anchor George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview on Sunday. “I want to assure the American public that we in the federal government have deployed additional resources, personnel, technology to assist the New Jersey State Police in addressing the drone sightings.”

“Some of those drone sightings are, in fact, drones. Some are manned aircraft that are commonly mistaken for drones,” Mayorkas added. “But there's no question that drones are being sighted.”

There have been numerous reports of drone activity along the East Coast since November. Mayorkas cited the 2023 change of a Federal Aviation Administration rule that allows drones to fly at night as to why there might be an uptick in sightings.

the "average" person would have had NO IDEA that this Rule changed (because it's not really something they would pay attention to or care about).

"We have not seen anything unusual. We have not seen any unusual activity"

"People are reporting sightings of drones. It's very common for individuals who see drones to actually see small aircraft and we have a case of mistaken identity"

"What we have done is deployed our state-of-the-art technology. That technology has not confirmed any drone sightings"

That's not to say there aren't drones, you know. In reality, you can have a 15 year old kid who buys a drone off the shelf and puts it up in the sky"

Not "before", and he has provided updates. Apparently some of this is not really in his wheelhouse but is under DOT.

IMHO, who should be out there too (as a Department head) and is sort of MIA, is Pete Buttigieg, since the FAA is under DOT.

Agreed, this has been a pattern with the Biden administration, they let the "news" get ahead of them and in that vacuum the magat's have been able to drive the narrative. Along with Biden's foreign policy his communication shop (after Jen Psaki departed) has been an abject failure and certainly added to the angst that many voters expressed in November.
