NEW YORK (AP) Travis Hunter turned every play into prime time on both sides of the ball and ultimately took home the Heisman Trophy.
Now hes got a leg up on his celebrity coach at Colorado.
The two-way star won college footballs most prestigious award Saturday night, punctuating a tireless performance all season by a dynamic player with a unique combination of skills.
Never thought I would be in this position, a tearful Hunter said as he thanked everyone from his fiancée to family members and former and current coaches. Its crazy. Belief takes you a long way.

(106,752 posts)apparently quite special--and he gave a heartfelt and moving acceptance speech. Not what I was expecting. So, kudos, Hunter.

(11,809 posts)I mean that it sometimes seems the voters see something unexpected, and nor does the award guarantee a successful pro career. Clearly, a player can only play on one side of the ball at the pro level, except maybe sporadically, or of dire need. I wonder if he'll choose, or the team that drafts him.
Great DBs are hard to come by, but elite WRs are always in demand, and usually have more noticeable impact.
Arch Manning may become The Next Big Deal, if he continues to develop. His highlight reel is already impressive. I'm interested to see where the third generation of Mannings lands.

(3,568 posts)was a guy who asked me why American football had so many "subs." Why are there so many players on the sideline, was the gist. When I told him that the players only play one side of the ball (offense or defense) he was completely astonished. Wait, they have two teams? One for offense and one for defense? Oh, more, I said. They also sub in for many plays. They have like three offenses and three defenses. They also have a "team" that just does punts and kicks. He literally didn't believe me, thought I was pulling his leg ("Non prendermi in giro!" i.e., don't make fun of me). It's weird for us because we're so used to it, but American football is fairly unique in this regard. You'd have to explain what's special about a "two-way star" to fans of pretty much every other sport.

(38,026 posts)Idahos Ashton Jeanty really stuck out, and is a genuine workhorse; well see him perform wonderfully in the NF. Hes on the short side ( 5 9, Weight 216 lbs) which could be an asset because theres no room to attach tackling handles.
Oregon Ducks quarterback, Dillon Gabriel, is solid, too.
