Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire will take effect Wednesday morning, Biden says

Source: CBC

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah will take effect at 4 a.m. local time (9 p.m. ET) on Wednesday after both sides accepted an agreement brokered by the United States and France, U.S. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday.

The accord, clearing the way for an end to a conflict that has killed thousands since it was ignited by the Gaza war last year, was designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities, Biden said in remarks at the White House Tuesday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said the plan was approved by the security cabinet in a 10-1 margin.

Earlier, Netanyahu said he was ready to implement a ceasefire deal with Lebanon and would respond forcefully to any violation by Hezbollah, declaring Israel would retain "complete military freedom of action," in a televised statement Tuesday.

Looks like Bibi was rushing this one through so Biden could take credit for it before Trump takes over...

1. Why would Bibi want Biden to take credit?

Seems to me that he accelerated the bombing and destruction leading up to the election so that he could suddenly be for peace when the next administration came to power. And if it was Trump, his pal could take credit.
Bottomline is that Bibi cannot erase war crimes in Gaza which still is on the table

A ridiculous statement to show how ridiculous all the statements about Bibi delaying a cease fire so Trump could get credit for it are.

Wut? Are you being sarcastic now? What was ridiculous?

Bibi obviously wanted to deny any credit to Biden. He ramped before the election, and now agrees right afterwards for a ceasefire. It’s Carter and the hostages all over again…

Hence the sarcasm.

I understand that neither Bibi's cease fire nor my sarcasm were expected, but the facts are a bitch.

(I only credit Bibi for the cease fire because he has been routinely credited for attempting to derail it. In fact, the cease fire is all Biden's)

There just wont be all out war.

2000 pound bombs wont fall every hour, but artillery will still thud. Tanks will still still fire. Snipers will still kill.

It will just be background noise, not run for your life panic 7x24.

And of course, no palestinians will be allowed to return or remain.

But no war. Just cleanup. The difference will be media coverage and social media reaction.

Hezbolah will deserve it. Palestinians will die. Tsf will play the hero.

And the use of bombs, the rockets and the artillery will depend on the terms of the cease fire and on what constitutes a violation.

And what frigging Palestinians did you expect to return or remain to Lebanon?

It is up to the Palestinian government (PA in the case of the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza) to negotiate their own cease fires. And you can bet that the Israeli Palestinians will return and remain in Israel, as they have for generations.

This is a ceasefire in LEBANON. Not Gaza.

This is a good thing. Millions of Lebanese are returning to their homes. Israelis are going to return to their homes.

A ceasefire in Gaza becomes more likely because of this.

And fuck Netanyahu and his supporters.

I also have a few choice words for his poorly informed detractors, but I will save these words for a different forum.

I don't see Hezbollah being a threat again, if ever. They got walloped and embarrassed, leadership taken out, and lot of their weapons destroyed. They won't have as much backing from Iran as in the past.
