Biden will attend Trump's inauguration in January, White House says

Source: CBS News

November 25, 2024 / 5:22 PM EST

President Biden and first lady Jill Biden will attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20, the White House said Monday. Before the election, Mr. Biden said he would attend, regardless of who won.

Trump did not attend Mr. Biden's 2021 inauguration, which took place two weeks after Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol ahead of the certification of the election results. Trump was the first president in more than 150 years to not attend his successor's inauguration.

Aboard Air Force One on Monday, White House spokesman Andrew Bates confirmed that Mr. Biden and the first lady will attend the inauguration. "The president promised that he would attend the inauguration of whomever won the election," Bates said. "He and the first lady are going to honor that promise and attend the inauguration.

He views that as an important demonstration of commitment to our democratic values, and to honoring the will of the people, as we continue to provide an orderly and effective transition." White House chief of staff Jeff Zients has met multiple times with incoming White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, Bates said.

I doubt the MSM will present it as a Biden fulfilling his commitment to democracy. Fox News will surely spin it as an epic supplication by Biden and a vindication of Trump.

Biden made a catastrophic mistake appointing and keeping Merrick Garland.

Now he continues to normalize a psychopath and convicted felon that will literally destroy our Democracy.

And Democrats wonder why they lose?

continue to show no backbone to Der Shitler we'll continue playing Lucy and the Football.

Nothing about this is "normal". Our side needs to goddamn act appropriately.

The only way our leaders should be showing up for this is as protestors along the parade route not sitting in the stands congratulating Trump and stroking his gigantic ego.

thing to do. Accepting the results without question is appeasement. We don't have to attack the Capitol, but I expect real leaders to at least stand up and talk truth to power when there is clearly something not right about the results. Why did they concede so quickly? The silence is deafening.

It signals continuity to the rest of the world. They know Trump is an asshole without Biden saying it. And passing on it really does not accomplish anything.

When he dies, Biden should pass on that completely. Send Commander (the biting German Shepherd) to piss on the grave.

not going to impact anything.

Maybe the new chain of thought is that Biden should boycott it while holding on OTP, star studded media circus stunt at Andrew's AFB during the inauguration??

Then all eyes would be on Biden instead of Trump. Especially if Biden would do something like a strip-tease or do lines of cocaine or have a circus of hookers present.

Maybe that is where our country is headed?

You will NOT get credit for this from the mainstream media - they will interpret it as normalizing the orange mussolini. And Fox and right wing media will see it as surrendering. Why oh why oh why do Democratic leaders constantly insist on trying to take the high road as if it's going to get them a gold star, when it NEVER, EVER, EVER works with the reich wing and their complicit media?
