President-elect Donald Trump finished naming his appointees and nominees over the weekend, but those individuals and their teams still have no special access to the federal agencies which theyll soon be running, amid an unprecedented delay in signing documents and agreements between the Trump team and the Biden administration, Politico reported on Sunday.
After Trump nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, Kennedys advisers reached to the department multiple times to start coordinating but were rebuffed. This is due to the president-elect decision to not yet sign the trio of ethics and transparency agreements with the federal government.
The problem is reportedly the result of the incoming Trump administration and the outgoing Biden administration failing to reach an agreement amid apparent negotiations over the requirements in the documents. The unprecedented delay has put the transition behind the normal schedule and has some members congress concerned, according to the report.
And not only does the delay prevent policy advisers from contact beyond what is available to the general public at the federal agencies they will soon be running, it also prevents staff from obtaining cybersecurity support or the secure email servers needed for sensitive or classified transition-related work, according to Politico.

Good. Hold the line. Congress passed an update to the Presidential Transition Act in 2019, primarily authored by the GOP loon Ron Johnson, and apparently his party doesn't want to follow it.

(302 posts)It appears Trump just plans to run out the clock, rather than signing any documents that would oblige his appointees to follow any laws or code of ethics.

(9,900 posts)As it clearly implies the delay is because of a disagreement with the Biden administration but in reality it's Trump's refusal to follow the law. Why aren't they just saying that? The fucking news media is again trying to make this about Democrats when this is a law passed by a Republican controlled Congress during Trump's first administration.

(144,279 posts)(and this was BEFORE the final election) and that didn't happen, so they are being denied access by the Biden Administration until they comply with the law (for now).
See this - https://www.democraticunderground.com/10143345768
Also see this from Elizabeth Warren (who contributed to that law) -

Senator Elizabeth Warren accused President-elect Donald Trump and his transition team of breaking the law, since he has reportedly not signed mandatory agreements before assuming office due to concerns over a pledge that he would avoid any conflicts of interest as president.
Trump and his team have not yet signed or submitted two documents laid out in the Presidential Transition Act due to an issue with the ethics plan, CNN first reported. Not signing the agreements means he and his team do not have access to important documents, with less than 70 days to go before hes inaugurated.
Donald Trump and his transition team are already breaking the law. I would know because I wrote the law. Incoming presidents are required to prevent conflicts of interest and sign an ethics agreement, the Massachusetts senator wrote in a post on X on Monday, linking the CNN article. This is what illegal corruption looks like.
Warren co-sponsored the Presidential Transition Enhancement Act of 2019, which amended the original act of 1963. Two documents are in question both of which had pre-election deadlines, the outlet reported.

(9,900 posts)My point being this article, which I assume is an AP or other wire service article as it's been distributed out since I've seen an almost identical article on Politico, does a very poor job of making it clear that this is all because of trump not following the law and not because of anything the Biden Administration is or is not doing.

(144,279 posts)except for maybe select news sites like Mother Jones, literally almost every M$M source is sane-washing what is going on, obfuscating all the typical government processes, and completely ignoring plain old Civics 101 (and I have a couple dozen sites that I keep in tabs to review for posts).

(6,484 posts)you know, do the paperwork - maybe put the transfer off for a while?
Delay the inauguration until they get their act together?
I'm good to wait for 4 years on that!
