US regulators investigating whether engines on 1.4 million Hondas might fail

Updated 11:46 AM CST, November 11, 2024

DETROIT (AP) — The U.S. government’s highway safety agency is investigating complaints that engines can fail on as many as 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles.

The probe by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration covers the 2016 through 2020 Honda Pilot and Acura MDX, as well as the 2018 through 2020 Honda Odyssey and Acura TLX. Also included is the 2017 through 2019 Honda Ridgeline.

The agency says in documents posted on its website Monday that connecting rod bearings on vehicles with 3.5-liter V6 engines can fail, leading to complete engine failure. Connecting rods link the pistons to the crankshaft and convert vertical motion to move the wheels.

Honda recalled about 250,000 vehicles in November of 2023 to fix the same problem. But the agency says it has 173 complaints from owners who reported connecting rod bearing failures, yet their vehicles weren’t included in the recall. One owner reported a crash with no injuries.

I'm old, so this shite will not last long for me... but I fear for the rest of us, including those who support this Orange Bastard and those who have not. must

An old professor of mine, a Lt. in the Polish Reserve during the start of WWII told me that "resistance is survival but it must be calculated " and done by serious people... I hope we have capacity to be serious people who have the capability (fu*ing money) and capacity to save us from the coming shi*e storm. I remain hopeful but not confident.

That my grandfather was in WW1. He told me my grandfather was injured by a phosphorus explosion and spent 6 months in the hospital during November 11th celebrations. He was about 24 years old then. I don’t remember any scars on his arms but my brother did. Grandpa died in 1979.

I got a letter to get my recall fixed.
Went to the dealer and they said they didn't have the part because it was on back order.

Received another letter in May about the same recall, so I went to my dealer a second time again still on back order.
I called the NHTSA and filed my complaint. They said they'd call me to follow-up and I have yet to get that call.

Now I have t deal with this recall, which is completely different.
Wonder of these parts are on back order as well.

I see a. pattern!
