EDIT
But a little before 7 p.m., attendees were ordered to leave the grounds because of approaching violent storms and seek shelter in nearby museums and government buildings. Many on the Mall balked at the order, and some yelled at U.S. Park Police and other law enforcement agents who directed them to leave as skies darkened above them. As the Mall was being cleared, other people continued to arrive, only to be turned away. On Pennsylvania Avenue NW, just steps from the White House, authorities were shepherding attendees from the event perimeter. Crowds streamed in all directions, in search of shelter or a restaurant or their hotels. Officers blew whistles and shouted for everyone to clear the area. But hundreds of people, some in star-spangled outfits or Trump-themed gear, stayed nearby hoping to be let back in.
John Kile, who flew in from Dublin just for the event, fumed at having been turned away. He said he tried to gain access at several checkpoints, spending hours waiting in line. We came all the way here for the Fourth of July event, got an expensive hotel, and we cant get in, said Kile, 29. And its
100 degrees, so, yeah, definitely a letdown. It doesnt seem to be well-orchestrated to be honest, he added.
Kile still hoped to be let in, but for others, the strain of the day had proved too much. A dejected Michala Herbster and her grandparents, Carl and Debbie Herbster, sat on a ledge near the Wilson Building, not far from the Mall. The trio waited in line for over two hours in the unbearable heat, in hopes of getting a good spot for the fireworks show and, more importantly, Trumps speech. After being evacuated from the Mall, all the family wanted to do was to get back to their hotel. Michala, 23, traveled from Ringgold, Louisiana, for the holiday, while her grandparents came in from Indianapolis. Very expensive trips, Debbie groused. Unable to call an Uber to get back to their hotel, they headed to the Federal Triangle metro stop, heads bowed slightly as rain continued to fall.
EDIT
Two couples who had been waiting for updates commiserated about the many indignities of the day. I paid thousands of dollars to come use a Porta Potty for the first time in my life, said Tanya Wells of Connecticut. Thats the first time for me, too, said Georgia resident Almira Bacon. The Bacons and Wellses who met while waiting out the rain had challenging days. Michael Bacon described hours of trekking between security checkpoints and waiting in long lines because of contradictory instructions from law enforcement officers. Wells and her husband, Jeremy, echoed his complaints about a lack of clarity from event organizers.

(2,886 posts)it didn't end up like the Catholic World Youth Day in Denver back in 1994?................300 to 400 THOUSAND KIDS, out in the open, temps in the 90's, with nowhere near enough water and porta potties. It wasn't just the heat, they had all just walked 10 miles, in 90+ degree heat, from downtown Denver to the Cherry Creek Reservoir Area......and most of them from the flatlands weren't used to the 5K altitude of Denver......
It was quickly declared the largest *Mass Casualty Incident* ever recorded..........EMT's and Paramedics from a radius of 50 miles around Denver were pouring in emergent.......from noon to 8pm that night, they started over 20,000 IV's in dehydrated kids that were crumping from the heat.......Un-real that no one died.........Thank goodness, the Colorado National Guard, in large numbers, was also on duty at the event, guarding Bill Clinton and the Pope........their help made all the difference......

MTG's "Jewish space lasers" linked to the Rothschild family intentionally sparking the California wildfires to clear land for a high-speed rail project; weather control technology to steer hurricane Helene toward Republican voters in order to tilt the presidential election; "fake" snow in Texas; "directed-energy weapons" to intentionally ignite Lahaina, Maui, to convert it into a "smart island"; etc.
It's not surprising. This is a group of people that will do anything at all to avoid inconvenient truths like the fact that scientists have been warning us about manmade climate change since at least 1938--or perhaps more accurately easily fall for the propaganda the fossil fuel industry pushes to them through Republican media and politicians.
Yet, many of them are absolutely certain without any evidence that some sort of "rapture" is coming any day now--again falling for the propaganda pushed at them by the industrial religion complex.
Oh, what a world, what a world!

In bursts of golds and yellows, reds, whites and blues, the fireworks illuminated the black canvas of the late-night sky. On the Mall, squeals of delight and disbelief could be heard from the outset. After a while, it seemed, attendees ran out of expressions of disbelief and just observed quietly.
A 40-minute fireworks display at midnight caused disbelief?

(38,956 posts)I watched the display. Perhaps a dozen stations, all fired off at exactly the same time, shooting the same fireworks. Looked like a field of identical, evenly spaced, daisies. Over and over.
Music was nice, but the amateur displays put on my BIL and cousin were far more interesting.

(65,410 posts)Ringgold is a town in the U.S. state of Louisiana, in the western half of Bienville Parish. The town of Ringgold is named for United States Army Major Samuel Ringgold. As of the 2020 census, Ringgold had a population of 1,379. It is the second largest incorporated municipality in Bienville Parish by population.

(70,127 posts)My overall feeling is sadness. It's sad that thousands of people spent a lot of money they couldn't afford to travel all the way to Trump's con show.
We here on DU expected it to be hot and humid, disorganized, and built with total contempt for the people attending. Apparently these folks still believe all Trump's promises and had no idea what they were walking into.
The sad part is they'll probably never visit the capital again. They missed all the best parts and will remember it with regret, anger, and probably a vague sense of shame for being conned. They'll immediately redirect those uncomfortable feelings as rage at Democrats.
Sad.
