British military says a cargo ship was hit while on UN-approved route through the Strait of Hormuz

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A cargo ship traveling through the Strait of Hormuz on a United Nations-approved route was hit by a projectile Thursday, the British military said, as several tankers made their way out of the channel using the same path.

Iran has threatened vessels using the path that runs along the coast of Oman. It was promoted by a U.N. maritime agency.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center reported the attack. It said there were no causalities or any environmental impact.
