Judge blocks Trump order that would have let USPS refuse to deliver mail ballots

A federal judge in Massachusetts Thursday blocked federal agencies from implementing President Donald Trump’s sweeping attack on mail voting and his attempt to create a national voter registration list before the midterm elections.

District Judge Indira Talwani, an Obama appointee, found that major parts of Trump’s March 2026 anti-voting executive order were “legally void” for exceeding the president’s power and violating the separation of powers by encroaching on states’ authority to administer elections.

“The Constitution does not grant the President any specific powers over elections,” Talwani wrote.

The 37-page ruling marks a major win for voters before the midterms. It halts the United States Postal Service (USPS) from refusing to deliver mail ballots unless states hand over their voter lists to the Trump administration.

Stellar credentials, as she should have in a position like what she holds.

Send ICE and armed agents to the poll places and threaten people of color. Suppress the vote.

I live in a heavily Hispanic area of northern Virginia (NOVA) in the outer DC suburbs. There is a good bit of quiet ICE activity here -- my illegal Mexican barber has friends who were deported and he is certain he is next.

We are a heavily Democratic area, so, I anticipate ICE or whatever at our polls, possibly even self-appointed "election defenders."

I walk with a cane. I'm 81, grew up in rural south Mississippi -- all males carried a pocket knife. Not for a weapon but to whittle, to open letters, etc. Most boys had a knife given to the by the grandfathers when the boy was about 6.

When I go to vote in November I will leave my cane and pocket knife at home. I will carry only handkerchief, small wallet with driver's license, voter registration card, and a few $$. If someone tries to stop me I will be polite but do my best to walk past them. Cane and pocket knife are both weapons -- leave them at home so ICE can't charge me with carrying deadly weapon.

I will not be stopped except by physical force.

I'm confident the postmaster general didn't make that statement on his own, but I hope he gets what he deserves for being a part of this. Now let's see how far Don Not-so-bright will try to take all this nonsense.
