This is MSNOW's chyron describing the cage match last night? Unbelievable.

Trump Hosts Lavish Cage Match For 80th Birthday

Umm, this has been reported for weeks. The NEWS is that racist comments about our former first lady were spewed by a contestant in this "lavish" cage match. Not only that, trump has not denounced them.

Apparently, MSNOW has the time to report on the disgusting spectacle today but not to address the racist comments.

I don't like every show or host on MS NOW, but there are plenty that are exceptional and certainly worth watching.

Whenever someone on MS NOW says something people have an issue with, there are people who want to trash the entire network. I appreciate the professional, reasonable voices that I hear and they should be encouraged before everything turns into right-wing garbage.

I don't watch as much cable news as I used to, but I still tune in to some of the programs that I really like. Meanwhile, I'm sure that come this evening, we'll hear some very critical reporting of that god-awful White House spectacle yesterday. MS NOW has some real journalists with experience and integrity.

It was a "macho" wet dream of masculinity.

To quote today's column Jeff Tiedrich:

Remember the 2006 movie Idiocracy? Its premise was ‘what if everyone in America was a fucking moron — and what if the biggest fucking moron of all was the president?’

Within the world of the movie, it took hundreds of years for the United States to devolve into a state of permanent, unending stupidity.

In real life, it only took ten.

Lucky us.

I’ll bet if old Ben Franklin could have seen this, he would have been all “I said ‘it’s a republic, if you can keep it.’ I didn’t say anything about a pedo president shitting his vulgar aesthetic all over the People’s House. What the fuck is wrong with you?”

And yes, it is every bit the sadistic, dangerous-as hell deplorable viewer "sport" as crowding the Coliseum to watch gladiators be torn apart in Roman times. Less bloody? Less predictably deadly? Yes. But the sadism is there.

It is one thing to watch violent sports for which precautions are taken to decrease or eliminate bodily harm and rules exist to ameliorate such risks. American football being, but one example. Even boxing has some rules built in around it, however inadequate. If you have ever seen the rare video of chimpanzees--the most aggressive of nonhuman primates- slaughtering each other, their bare feet kicking and destroying their enemies or even group-mates, you might be embarrassed to have ever defended the human equivalent. Jane Goodall found this devastating--no matter how rare among those chimps she studied over decades. I have to think she would feel similarly to me seeing humans behave similarly--for entertainment.

Different strokes for different folks, you say? Well, stay away from me if this is how you get your jollies. I see the aftermath in my ER and the crying family and friends when that brain damage is irreversible.

Rachel and Lawrence can easily find other venues, as Joy Reid was forced to do.

MSNBC announced on Monday that the progressive host Joy Reid was being fired from her weeknight show, with Alex Wagner also losing her prime-time nightly broadcast. Katie Phang and Jonathan Capehart also lost their solo weekend shows, along with Ayman Mohyeldin, who has been a fierce critic of Israel’s bombing of Gaza. A “bloodbath of non-white anchors”, as the Daily Beast termed it, as the move was widely criticized, including on MSNBC.
...
The moves came two weeks after the Federal Communications Commission, led by the Donald Trump appointee and Project 2025 co-author Brendan Carr, launched an investigation into Comcast, MSNBC’s parent company over its diversity, equity and inclusion policies, part of a broader policy which has seen Trump order an end to all DEI programs in federal government and also target the programs in schools and universities.

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2025/mar/02/msnbc-staff-changes

Elie Mystal: “I owe the television part of my career to Joy Reid, as do so many other Black voices y’all never would have heard of if not for her. And that’s why she’s gone. They can treat black folks as interchangeable, but everybody Black knows that Joy was indispensable.”

“Joy Reid represents another loss of amplifying Black and brown voices who will report news on stories that oftentimes go under the radar or under reported by mainstream journalists,” said Emmitt Riley, a professor of politics and African and African American studies at the University of the South and the president of the National Conference of Black Political Scientists.

“When we think about what diversity truly means, it means that we bring a wide variety of perspectives to the table. And certainly a person’s life experiences with discrimination, their life experiences in terms of where they occupy certain positions of power or lack thereof, informs what stories they decide to amplify. And so we saw Joy covering a number of different stories that I think will go under the radar now.”

So judging them by that is meaningless. Whose show was it?

It starts to improve with Nicole Wallace's show. Then, the evening shows, starting with Chris Hayes, are worth watching. I think they've added another show that runs in that spot some weekdays, or maybe earlier, that is hosted ny Simone Sanders/Townshend , Michael Steele, and Luke Russert. Tonight, and every Monday night, Rachel Maddow follows. The rest of the week, Jen Psaki fills that spot, followed by Lawrence O'Donnell. And starting tonight, Ali Velshi has a new show after Lawrence.

What purpose does it serve to trash the only cable news station we have that is even remotely on our side based on their weakest daytime shows? Their prime time news hosts, the ones I mentioned above, are the only journalists on television I know of who DO regularly stand up to Trump.

I understand being pissed after seeing that chyron. I would have been, too. But that is why I don't watch their morning shows. That chyron was not representative of the network as a whole. Those evening shows I mentioned are worth watching. We need to support THEM, not toss them aside with the morning's worst. They are the only ones on television I know of who are EVER on our side, and we need them.

I haven't heard of any other major changes. The changes they did make were ones I appoved of and have just been completed.

They added the show with Simone, etc. They shaved an hour off Scarborough (yes!!!) to give Stephanie Ruhle a 2-hour early morning show that will focus on her specialty areas, business and finance, and how all the Trumpshit REALLY affects those areas. I think she wanted this, and will do well there. This freed up her late night spot to give Ali Velshi his own weeknight show, which he amply deserves. I think that starts tonight.

So...so far, so good... and I haven't heard of any other changes coming.

They talked about who the fighter guy is. I had MSNOW on in the background. I am not sure what time it was when they played it - sometime this afternoon.

I agree with some other comments - MSNOW does a good job - better than all other broadcast options, IMHO. They have some anchors who shine and are the best of their profession. The chyrons are written by production staff. There were a lot of things wrong with that UFC spectacle, and being lavish was one of them...with all that is going on in the world.

At times today the event was lambasted by MSNOW because our tax dollars paid for it, and it was not free to the country. There were many things wrong with the event.

I do not believe MSNOW was avoiding specifics aspects of the UFC event that warrant analysis. They are covering a firehose of important stories.
