In Re: The NY Knicks victory

I’m going to preface this by telling saying that they deserved the Championship without question. They soundly defeated each team they played including my beloved 76ers, whose name made a whole lot of sense fifty years ago. They have four players from Villanova’s program and played terrific team basketball.

What “gets” me is that national coverage of the excitement, joy, and mayhem in the streets was covered as a wonderful moment to behold. People running amok, jumping up and down on cars, screeching and cursing were covered as amusing moments of exhilaration and celebration.

Now when the Philadelphia Eagles won their first Super Bowl, the exact same outpouring of relief and exuberance was covered by the media nationally as rioting and destruction of the city in extremis. Predictions were nearly universally proffered that the city would be utterly devastated by the ensuing parade.

Of course, the parade was fantastic and virtually without serious incident even though two million people showed up for it. This fact was not covered by the networks. Only our DU “favorite” broadcaster Jake Tapper 🙄 was truthful and realistically presented the relevant information about the festivities likely only because he is a Philadelphian by birth and upbringing. It was a terrific piece I must say.

I hope everything goes well this Thursday for the champions and their fans while the parade occurs and afterward. They well deserve it.
